I really hope so. My grandparents helped raise me when my Dad was in Vietnam. They were an integral part of my life growing up. When my Grandfather passed back in the '90s it really did a number on me. My Grandmother died in 08. Still think about both of them daily. And my Mom passed a couple of months ago.

I'd give everything just to sit down and talk with them.

I like to believe it is true.
Lost my grandpaw 3 years ago, and in January it will be 3 years since my dad passed. those days feel like it had just happened yesterday.

I would like to believe its true and i can see them again. but there are days I do see my dad in the reflection of my daughter so in essence I know he isnt totally gone or away.

Nope. When you die that is it. Nothing exciting coming after unfortunately so better to live it up now with the one you are given

Can you 100% say this is true? If so, facts please.

I'm at a year on the 28th. Tell that to myself almost every day

No one can say with 100% certainty that it is true or untrue, but science can't explain anything pointing to an afterlife of some sort, which means to me it (likely) isn't coming

If the afterlife is real, I will almost certainly be spending it apart from my other family members regardless.

This is just one of the many things that always bugged me about heaven/hell & seeing family members in the afterlife. Wouldn't it be hell for a parent that is in heaven to know that one of their children is being tormented in hell for forever?

Or is everyone too hopped up on Jesus dust in heaven to care about that? Or does Jesus make a hologram of me to appease my saint of a mother's mind?

we still are unsure how to deal with the finality of death. We will likely never know for certain one way or another whether an afterlife exists. It definitely helps with the grieving process for many people, which is why the idea sprang up long ago.

I see no reason to lie to myself and I choose to cherish and love the people close to me in the little time I have on this big, spinning rock.

of course you'd like to think it's true. That's one of the main reasons why religions came into existence.

Bingo. That, and controlling people.

I don't think there are people sitting around on clouds catching up with their buddies and long lost family members.

A religious person asking someone for facts to support a position/belief makes me

It's a pretty thought, but no, they're gone. It makes the time you had more fleeting and precious. All the more importance to live your life now.

shite, most people would still believe santa exists as adults if everyone kept up the story. Think about it. Why do you believe your religious story? Answer: because people told you that it was true when you were young and kept reinforcing it.

What better way to control people thousands of years ago than tell them that if they did bad stuff they'd eventually be burning in fires for eternity?

what's the old line about a priest/pastor getting grilled by an atheist abut the afterlife, asking him how it feels to have deprived himself of worldly pleasures, etc., the response was, "If I am wrong I will have wasted a lifetime, If you are wrong, you will have wasted an eternity."

I certainly hope there is an afterlife, but this has always made me laugh.

If I do, i hope they can't see me until I get there. If grandma can see me jacking off to fat girl farting porn, then shite is gonna be awkward. Everytime someone says "Don't worry, Grandma will always be with us", I cringe from the awkward guilt.

The lifetime seems more valuable. You know scarcity creating value and all.
