Went to grammar school in the late '60's early '70's. We would play tackle football, British Bulldog and other tackle games pretty much every day.

Was hell on those Catholic school uniforms but it was pretty rare that anyone got hurt in any substantial way.

We played smear the queer.
Everybody got in a circle and ball was tossed to some random poor soul.
All hell broke loose.

Prob a game that would be frowned upon in 2017 America.
Unless of course you are lucky enough to still live in good ole baw land.

Hell, we would organize tackle football games (no pads) on the weekend in HS.

How we never got killed or broke anything I will never know. A few concussions, though.

Grew up in the eighties. We played tackle football, smear the queer (not pc), and other similar games, but I don't recall doing it at school.

Yes, because being the smallest kid in the class, I was the recipient.

Yet somehow I didn't turn into a psychotic killer looking to take revenge on society.

(OK, maybe I got my revenge by having those losers pay my salary for the last 30 years from their taxes)

Grew up in the 80s and remember playing Red Rover. We had this super fat girl in our class and when her name was called there was a loud "ooooohhhhhh" from our non pc mouths.

We had "little recess" before lunch and "big recess" in the afternoon. Big recess was the time for epic all-against-all tackle no pads anything goes football.

We played a lot in early 90s. Teachers would try to break it up. We morphed it into "freeze tag football" which was essentially rugby with forward laterals but had to tag whoever had the ball by shoving them to the ground. I think even now in 2017 if boys are left to their own devices without intervention from teachers, games are going to turn out pretty rough...which is a good thing. Maybe you wouldn't have so many kids on meds if you let them actually be kids a little more.

We did tackle football and smear the Aggie.

We had a merry go round kinda like this one in the school playground.

The boards in the center areas were missing so we could get a couple of people into the middle triangles and push the merry go round very fast. Fast enough to allow people on the outside to hold on with only their hands and be airborne. You generally couldn't hold on long and you'd get thrown out radially from the mgr.

One kid hit a nearby pine tree and was unconscious for a bit.

Ambulance came, fun over.

They shut us down after that with a steel post set in concrete chained to it.

It became the Unmerry Doesn't Go Round.

We called it," Blueberry Tackle" but I'm sure it was the same Tackle game as all the rest.

We had blacktop so didn't really play tackle football but games could get rough, played a lot of jailbreak as well. Lots of patches on my school pants through the years

Early 70's in Metarie we mostly monkey bar wrestled. Lotta broken bones came from that including when a kid came down feet first landing on my left hand immediately following our bout. Only broke the metacarpal of index finger. Dr. was impressed by older healed fractures that showed on the x-ray but not documented in file. He was quite impressed by my early bone setting successes.

That was elementary school. Middle school already had a kid driving his own car. Daily ambulances for OD's. Walls getting kicked down. Recess was for chain smoking and throwing rocks/bricks at nerds.
