Gambling and receipt of government assistance

Would you be in favor of casinos being required to scan the license of any person entering to see if they receive government assistance (food stamps, medicaid, SSI, WIC etc.)?
I'd like to see a law preventing those from receiving government assistance from spending the money received from the rest of us at the slot machine. I'd also be in favor of turning away anyone that has an outstanding child support obligation.

Probably most. I would expect strong resistance from the casino lobby.

Why stop at gambling? throw in alcohol and tobacco for good measure.

I work in downtown Shreveport. I forget the day, but it's something like the first Monday of each month when disability checks go out. There is always a long line at every bank with the same old routine for 95% of the "customers".
They want to cash their check.
They don't have an account.

Clerk counts out a couple hundred bucks.
They walk out the door and head straight towards the casino a few blocks away.
Sad!

i've calmed down on playing poker but yeah i would target specific days to maximize my profits
Friday nights when the tourists come in and Saturday during the day when they're try to gamble to win back what they lost Friday
+
the first week of the month
those are the most +EV scenarios

Will never happen, the money the state gets from license fees and kickbacks from Casinos is too much and they would never stop that flow.

Instead of restricting how business operate, how about we limit/eliminate government assistance.

Limiting government assistance to those who don't spend their own money on vices would do exactly that.
But here's an idea. let them gamble, but if they win, a certain portion of it goes right back to the government . Easily collected when the welfare person cashes out at the casino.

I'm for suspending the vote for those on government assistance.

Absolutely. Receiving public assistance means you are a dependent. You have broken the social contract of citizenship (for whatever reason) and until such time that you are able to survive without taking from others, you don't get a voice in the direction of the country.
Think of it this way- my children, though I love them very much, do not have equal weight in family decisions. My wife and I decide where and what we eat, shop, vacation, etc, because we are the ones that are paying for it.

Sometimes liening the winnings from the casino is the only way to get the outstanding child support. The law provides for DCFS to lien casino winnings and the casino has to hold them. Most don't know about it and go gamble anyway.

Here in SC ... the State will suspend the DL of a person who does not pay land/auto property taxes, is delinquent on child support, fails to pay a traffic fine, etc. And, to boot, they send a notice to the address on file with DMV, typically the address on the DL.
So, there are a lot of people out there with suspended DLs ... that probably don't even know it.

Ben Shapiro said it best that "poor people are poor because they suck with money and not some systematic oppression'

I work in the casino industry...Currently if you win a jackpot over $1,200 (which must be hand paid out) your name is run through many list provided by the state. one of them is the back child support list. If you are on the list you do not get paid the jackpot. It goes back to the state which in turn delivers it to the person who is owed back child support.

Then you may as well put an end to state lotteries.
The lottery is a state tax on poor people....and stupid people.
