re: Lafayette Sheriff's daughter and babysitter missing

Apologies for what may be perceived by some as a rant - but hat "update" presser in the OP kinda rubbed me the wrong way. When people hear about missing/lost children - They have a natural inclination to want to help... and to do so they need some basic information.
I wasn't expecting "Is canoeing an activity the child and the babysitter have engaged in previously?"... but SOME relevant facts would've been nice. What's the point of having a post-statement "media Q&A" if attending reporters are only allowed a whopping 2 questions (prepared for them in advance by LE)...
"Do you suspect any foul play was involved?" No we do not suspect any foul play was involved. That is all.
Wait... What? We can't just do a 1-queston media session? Ok - I got it.... "Who should people call if they have any helpful info?"
--End Presser--
Just incorporate all that into the public statement and drop the scripted BS. I already didn't really get the impression they were expecting the general public to have anything useful to aide in the investigation.
Hope this is a "we know where she is and don't want news reports to freak out the babysitter if she's listening" scenario.
The other thing that occurred to me... The property security video which was sufficient enough to determine foul play wasn't involved... Wonder if it determined "Were life jackets involved?"...because that can affect some aspects of a search. I hope they were. Otherwise - It would make the mention of Wildlife and Fisheries boats equipped with sonars decidedly grim.
ETA:
Glad to see these latest posts where LE has started to engage the public for assistance more directly.

Yes and why are they robocalling people at 11 at night when you know what happened.

Seems like that type of system should be reserved for abductions.
It is done in the immediate vicinity when a child is missing no matter the circumstance. Usually it includes where last seen, physical description of the individual as well as clothing in case somebody sees him/her alone somewhere (especially if weather/terrain is potentially life-threatening for a child of whatever age or condition).
ETA:
It's nationally mandated as protocol if a cell phone alert network is present in the vicinity of the Amber Alert.

Did they go out in that pond or is the wooded area behind it flooded?

I live right down the road from where they went missing. Large lake connected to lots of heavily wooded marshy areas. I am surprised they haven't found them, because the pond on his property is not really connected to anything, but apparently with all the rain, it has spilled over into the marsh.
This is the property. It's not connected to any other waterway like they said it was on the news, but apparently the rain has made the pond spill into the woods/marsh.

Do you think it's possible they drifted into the woods and got lost like the news is implying? I'm not familiar with the area

Let's hope they are only lost and are found soon. This is creepy but if you look closely at the boathouse on the pond you see a canoe on the deck.

Sad story. I find it odd they haven't found anything yet though. This isn't that big of an area to cover.. whole story seems odd.

it wouldn't surprise me. All the land along that road from Shenandoah all the way to Hwy 90 dumps any water to the back. Last year when it flooded, the pond was completely covered. So with all the rain we've gotten lately, it's plausible that they could have drifted. The problem is, there is no telling what happened to them from there. They could have tipped and got stuck in mud under water, could have gotten into all sorts of shite back there. But they haven't found them as of this morning, that's never a good sign.

An Acadian AirMed helicopter is making circles all over the swamp next to the airport right now.
I'm assuming assisting with the search as I have never seen them do this.

What is the gator situation look like back there?

I know Julianna, so I called the last number I had for her. A guy answered and immediately asked if I was calling for her, said he's had this number for about a week. Poor guy is probably getting overwhelmed with calls.
