I was at that game in Columbus. It was a great day, great atmosphere. Until the end, of course. One of the must frustrating endings and biggest implosions I've ever seen.

I fricking set that game to record while I was gone and came back and it says it's lsu at ohio st 1989 and I watched the recording and it's auburn florida st 1989...pissed me off. Idk if it was a directv frick up or if my dvr screwed up but it definitely isn't the lsu ohio st game. Sucks.

My dvr did the same thing, I happened to be at home for lunch and I turned the tv on and noticed that auburn vs fsu was playing in that time slot and lsu was playing after

Actually, given the field position at the time, the punter was kicking out of his own endzone and at best he would have gotten it to their 45 or the 50. A free kick from the 20 normally would have gotten the ball o the 30-35 and because it was essentially a punt, the thinking was that it would put us in better position and with the lack of T.O's by OSU it would be in our favor.

But, special teams whiffed on the coverage and Olive got a very good return

One of the few times, I actually thought an intentional safety was the right call. Archer....or Zaunbrecher rather, lost the game on the play before.

The year before it was in Tiger Stadium and we played to a 10-10 tie if I remember correctly
at the thought of Alleva (Or his incompetent ex-LSU football player assistant) trying to schedule a home and home with Ohio State today, (Or anybody of that caliber) on a consistent basis.

They're too busy scouring the country and loading up LSU's schedule with the Chattanooga's, Troy's, Towson's and Idaho's.

If you're gonna stoop to that level and insult LSU fans, might as well just bring in Tulane, La.Tech and the SWLAJC@Lafayette Ramblin Acadians every year.

Would much prefer seeing LSU play them than all the out of state "Sisters of the Poor." ......

What really hurt was that the team let that game get into their heads. The next week, they played at Florida and were never mentally in the game. The Tigahs lost 19-6 in a game that wasn't that close to an inferior Florida team.

Thankfully, they were able to get the ship righted for the must-win Earthquake game the week after that.

Our neighbor, a Buckeye, reminded my dad of this game as much as he could. Then the 2007 National Championship game happened. God bless Matt Flynn! Haven't heard the story since.

The following week we played at Florida on CBS. They opened the telecast showing Olive's 'catch' and you could darn sure make the case he trapped it.

Still we completely folded in that game and Ohio State wound up 4-6-1 in John Cooper's first year. Ohio State's first losing season since the mid 1960's.
