i mean, that is the most effective single style of fighting, if we're doing a bloodsport-esque tournament of single-discipline fighters

Not true, in real life you can just cover your head or hug the guy swinging at you and an official will come out of no where and break you up and give you a breather.

yeah i mean the last megafight (pac v. mayweather) had people in an uproar after how shitty that was

Yet people will still always buy the megafights. Hell, I bet the PPV numbers for this fight will be insane

Stamina needed bc of boxing rules

Not a melt. Didn't think Mcgregor would win. It's just when you talk about who wins in a street fight, no rules, man vs man, boxers Simply wouldn't win.

It was ridiculous to see Floyd cover and turn his back. Would you ever turn your back to someone in a regular fight? Try it and let me know what happens. But apparently that's kosher in boxing.
If it was a street fight Floyd wouldn't have toyed with him for 4 rounds...

Y'all need to realize this was set up as a boxing match. If it was a street fight both guys would have fought differently. The smartest one would bring a gun

The MMA legend had to jump into the sport of boxing to have a great payday...

That is why this is so ironic

that's b/c of the different structures of the sports

pride guys use to make $$$

i mean not like the money conner made tonight, but a lot more than what UFC guys make

McGregor makes more than pretty much any other boxer.

Floyd would be broken in the 1st round of a street fight with McGregor.

Get fricking real

Dude McGregor was only upright in this fight because Floyd is an old defensive fighter, and a pillow puncher. He even came forward something he never does. Ward, GGG, Kovalev puts this guy on his arse in 3.

Yea, as a casual follower of both sports I think boxing has a higher appeal to the public. I've tried and tried to get into UFC but I just find it boring, meanwhile boxing has fights like Horn/Pacquiao where I was on my feet the entire match

I'll never be a boxing loyalist. The dudes on here who want McGregor to pay for insulting the sport are weird as frick.

At the same time, I respect UFC, but I'll never be some big time UFC fan either. That community is even more out of the mainstream.

But while there are a ton of casual boxing fans who will pony up 100 bucks to watch a fight like tonight, I don't think there is the equivalent for MMA/UFC. Big time boxing matches are major nationwide events that go beyond whether you're a real boxing fan or not.

i was going to make that point, too, but had to look it up

pretty sure top-level UFC guys make more than almost every boxer not named floyd mayweather

like i said in the other thread, yeah boxing has spectacle fights with massive paydays (pretty much only FM fights), but they're years apart

The undercard was so terrible that I watched the Sao ts4 preseason game instead.

The Badou Jack fight was really entertaining. They had like 800 punched thrown in 4 1/2 rounds

I can't imagine getting interested in a pure boxing match again.

This was a once in a lifetime what if MMA fighter went at with boxer

What is Boxer vs boxer next opportunity to have a night like this

This was a net gain for UFC, net loss for boxing.

All Mcgregor had to do was not get embarrassed. For whatever reason, Floyd didn't embarrass him.

I'm not sure that it hurt boxing. But it definitely helped the UFC.

The street fight thing is only relevant to the extent boxing dudes are yelling about McGregor getting his arse kicked and having a laugh about it. Otherwise it's just fans of McGregor being defensive.

But it is weird to me that you seem to be setting it up as though McGregor wouldn't be the overwhelming favorite in a street fight.
