Car Guys-Need Help-GTO

There is a GTO around the corner sitting under a shed, not sure if its for sale, but need advice, if Id like to purchase this and owner wants to sell, what years are the best, things to look for, questions to ask-Id either keep it and have it customized or sell as is, not sure-need guidance.

Have any idea of the year? The 64-67 bring top dollar restored. I have seen some go for 45K and conv go for 65K.

In the early 80s there was a 69 camaro rs parked in a shed next to a run down house on the hwy. I knocked on the door and asked the guy if he wanted to sell the camaro. He said it's not for sale and he was going to restore it. The camaro is still in the exact same spot today except the shed roof has caved in on the camaro. There is also a piece of plywood leaning against the shed with a spray painted msg that says "camaro is not 4 sale"

Without knowing the year and condition, that's a hard question to answer.
Now if you buy it for $19, I'd hope you could make a profit.

If it visible from the road I can guarantee that you are not the first person to stop and try to buy it. Don't be surprised if they tell you to scram.

64 and 65. 4 speed and Tri Power the most coveted. Be sure to have someone carefully check it for rust.
While the only sure way is to have the body sand or soda blasted a good body man can use a magnet to detect heavy body filler use which shows that there might be hidden rust.
Does it have the original engine(matching numbers). Is it a "Judge" model?

DO NOT CUSTOMERIZE. You will destroy the value. If it needs a full restoration it will be very expensive. Will it be worth it? Depends on a lot of things. If it's very original you may want to keep it that way. Collectors have a saying "It's only original once". And that is the current trend.

I've bought and sold and hand full of classic cars, it's risky at best. shite I've only made money one 1 for them and lost my arse on the last. Call it a wash, anyway
Buying a car, any car hoping to make money on it you're doing it wrong. By all means chase the classic car of your dreams but do it because you love the car and the hobby not because you think it makes financial sense.
But I would suggest if you are really interested
you just go talk to the owner get some information about the car find out its history before even asking about buying it

Owner was not home-could not get into gate/ fence, it was locked. Im going to look up the grill and see what I find out-I didn't want to take a pic wout permission

What kind of shape is this car in?
Friend of our family has a 65 coupe, like w teal green color and i mean it when i say this thing is MINT. Never been touched. I've been trying to buy it for 20 years, but there it sits never to be driven again.

Ok, so here is my fidnings-based on the grill, the GTO is a 66 or 67-gold color-the old man in my office was with me, he says that is what it is based on the grill. I also stumbled onto a 64 Impala, sitting on the side of another house-I will look into that one tomorrow.

It depends on a lot of things. 1970 Ram Air IV is the pinnacle as far as I know. Get the VIN and start researching. Odds are it's nothing special, but there are great barn finds all the time. Hemmings.com may help you get a ballpark value.

Unless you have a lot of time or a lot of money do not start a restoration. Buy something almost done, or something that has the body restored.
