On July 26, an introduction of a tax proposition was announced for a parish-wide 5-mill property tax over 30 years to fund an estimated $445 million in regional area improvements that include constructing new public roads, improving existing corridors with increased mobility, constructing community enhancement road projects and improving the advanced traffic management center.

The proposed BTR Plan property tax would also free up the existing half-cent sales tax exclusively for repair and improvement of existing roads in and around the cities of Baton Rouge, Baker, Central, and Zachary.

Existing ½ Cent Sales Tax – All remaining proceeds and future revenues of the ½ cent sales tax to be used exclusively for repair and improvement of existing roads in East Baton Rouge Parish. RESULT - Doubling the capacity of the existing overlay budget!

New 5 Mill Property Tax – 30-year property millage based on assessed home value within the boundaries of EBR Parish. All funds to be used for EBR transportation and mobility improvements as shown below:

Project List

The most expensive items appear to be widening projects for Lee Drive, Perkins Road, Hooper Road, and Wax Road.
They are also planning to spend money to improve lighting, signage, and appearance of College Drive, Florida Blvd, Plank Road, and Government Street.

This proposal will cost someone with a $200,000 home an extra $62.50 per year, or about $5.20 per month.

How much will it cost to put the traffic lights back to their regular timing (after the election)?

I agree. I think that some of these could improve traffic in localized areas but won't solve the main problem which is all of I-10 & I-12 flowing right through the city.

Im no expert but I can't imagine it wouldn't do at least some good. Obviously it doesn't address the very root of the problems

Do EBRP property owners already pay significant, or any, property tax?

ETA: If Rogue is right, that's idiotic.

Well, that's not the local government's responsibility.

I'm assuming "capacity improvements" means widening.

If so, why are they going to spend $10.0M to widen Frenchtown Rd. between the Central Thruway and Greenwell Springs Rd.? I don't understand the need there.

Widening, adding center turn lane....which probably necessitates subsurface drainage with curb/gutter.

Both the interstates as well as Airline Highway should receive state and federal funds for enhancement. Locals should not tax themselves to pay for improving those IMO.

It's a shame Kip's green light plan is gone. There were some really great projects on there that they never got to. And those aren't included in these new few.

Why is one of the biggest clusterfricks in the city never addressed: 12/Airline Interchange.

Causes miles of delays every single day because of people merging on and off the interstate at 25 miles per hour over maybe 50 yards of road.

Airline at I-12 needs to be a stack interchange like Airline at 110.

Amazing how Texas builds stack interchanges like they're going out of style and has one at almost every intersection. But Baton Rouge can only build one.. way in the north part of town.

There are barely any stack interchanges in Louisiana. Airline at 310 is another. And Shreveport has a couple.

Most of the Green Light Projects are done.

The following that were from the Green Light Plan that are on this Plan:

Hooper
Old Hammond
Perkins
Nicholson
