I think Eli Manning is underrated

Ok, here me out. Whenever I hear people talk about him, they make it seem like he's just a blob.
So I started looking at some stats.
Eli Manning is currently 7th in most touchdowns thrown in NFL history.
He is currently 8th in most passing yards thrown in NFL history.
He is tied for 7th for most 4th quarter comebacks of all time.
E Manning is known for throwing interceptions. He ranks 21st in interceptions thrown. Ahead of him are Brett Farve, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, John Elway, and a bunch of other great QBs. So he is not the only prolific passer who has not taken care of the ball at times.
Tom Brady, Brett Farve, John Elway, and Dan Marino have all fumbled more than he has as well.

Eli is on the same level that Big Ben and Rivers are (obviously Rivers below them 2 without the rings).
Hes not underrated or overrated.

Eli manning has never been considered one of the "elite" in the NFL, ever.

Eli is also very inconsistent. He can look anywhere from Tom Brady to Jay Cutler

No.
Rivers and Rothlisburger >>> Eli.

All of those stats and he's never been a top 5 QB in any season. I repeat, any season.
Tells you everything you need to know about Eli.

Angry pats fan
Trolling aside, Eli has never been considered a top 5 QB in the league. Maybe in 09 before Plax shot himself? I'd have to check the stats but I remember the Giants team being like 8-2.

I hold no ill will towards Eli. 07 I blame the Patriots offensive line shitting the brick and David fricking Tyree, and 11 they just lost it happens.

The Giants team that won the Super Bowl after going 9-7 is my least favorite team in the NFL that I can remember.

His offensive line has never been considered elite. Until OBJ, he didn't have elite WR talent. Never had a top 10 RB. Ahmad Bradshaw, Shockey, Brandon Jacobs, and Plaxico etc were solid but not game-breaking players.
Coughlin had always been a conservative coach too, so his prime years were probably not best utilized as far as stat gathering opportunity.
The Giants D did carry them in their playoff runs, which skews a lot of opinions on his greatness.

As a giants fan, hes helped us get two rings so its hard to hate on him.
On the other hand, theres nothing more frustrating than watching eli throw off his back foot whole ducking away from a hit and just tossing the ball up for grabs.

Rivers is clearly better than Eli, not even up for debate.

Eli Manning: 215 INTs and 320 TDs for his career.
Drew Brees: 5 more INTs, but 145 more TDs
Peyton Manning: 36 more INTs, but 219 more TDs
Brett Favre: 121 more INTs, but 188 more TDs
and Brett Favre is also in a different era for the most part, so its hard to compare.
Then you have guys who are exact eras:
Rivers: 314 TDs to 156 INTs
Ben: 301 TDs to 160 INTs
Right there with TDs, but substantially less INTs

IMO, he's fairly rated. He'll submit incredibly prolific passing seasons like 2011 and 2014-16, then he'll submit seasons where he throws in excess of 20 INTs and achieve passer ratings of 69 and 74 it's the inconsistency of seasonal performance that precludes the football appreciating community from rating him among the elite. Playing with one of the league's worst defenses doesn't help matters either as the Giants are inconsistent in qualifying for the playoffs whereas Brees and Marino usually could overcome such deficiencies in that regard. Brees and Manning's circumstances are quite similar due to the ineptitude of their teams' defenses but where they differentiate is Brees has remained consistent in throwing 30+ TDs to -20 INTs without really any deviation. Eli does have 2 rings though like Phil Simms.

Eli had a VERY good season that year(Giants D sucked per usual): 4900 yards, 29-16 TD/INT ratio, 61% completion pct, 8 Y/A, 14 Y/C, and 93 passer rating

Context obviously being the most collectively prolific passing season in NFL history: 2 QBs exceed 5,000 yards 6 total exceed 4,500 yards, 3 throw for 40+ TDs, 5 total throw for 30+ TDs. As you presented, Eli was top 10 in all the major passing categories that season.
