So when that happens, you can pull the plug then.

That's what happened and that's what they did.

That still doesn't answer my question on why these people should not be able to make the choice themselves.

Doctors advocating for the patient said it was in his best interest to cease treatment.

Because they had no other choice.

That's not an answer. That's an explanation of what happened.

This story pisses me off and a big reason why I stay firmly on the libertarian side of things 9/10 times.

That is irrelevant to my original comment. I simply pointed out the other posters setup of the story was biased. The political and social aspects of this argument was introduced by that other emotional retard. Charlie wasn't some happy kid wasting away and held captive by the NHS. There is actually evidence they did everything possible to treat him. Once he was brain dead, the medical professionals opted to stop treatment.

I believe they are the only ones capable of making an informed rational selfless decision. That child's situation sounds like a living hell.

Don't expect him to address that. he's too busy reaching for any personal insult to detract from the actual discussion.

Again. Go read what I originally posted. Facts should be posted before people start getting emotional.

No one in this thread is making an emotional argument. Stop deflecting.

My opinion isn't based off emotion.

And his chances of survival are absolutely irrelevant.

The insurance company refuses it. If the patient has the financial ability and a doctor signed on the insurance company cannot say no, he must die.

Well, I'd need to read all the trial testimony, do medical research, probably interview some doctors, perhaps even go to med school.

I don't believe the parents should be allowed to do whatever they want just by virtue of being parents. He was a person not a pet. I think the decision should be made in the patient's best interest. I don't think parents are necessarily able to do that b/c their own interests are intertwined.

So you ignore the doctors that were willing to try to treat him and at least give him a chance?

This makes the whole thing even worse. You're basically saying you think it would be better to do anything possible for a pet but not your kid.
