How did we get Pete Jenkins?

He is a defensive line legend. He ran my defensive line camp back in 2008 when he coached the eagles. He's a god amongst the linemen community. How did lsu pick him up?

Orgeron is friends with him. He came in last year to replace O when he became the interim head coach.

He and Orgeron are good friend. He was O's mentor. Apparently he told Orgeron if he needed him, Pete would come out of retirement to coach the d line. He said something like he would only coach again if it was under Orgeron.

That's crazy. I'm sure Pete has made many friends in his years. I improved a lot from two weeks with him and can't imagine what these boys are learning from him.

May I ask where you learned under him?
I'm genuinely asking and not being a jerk. That's awesome.

Well, he first came to LSU to coach with Bill Arnsparger

A lineman camp at Nichols in 2008. I was going into my senior year. Was pretty awesome because there were multiple NFL coaches and the lsu linemen worked with us. Those boys are huge and fast
He doesn't choose favorites, he works with everyone and is calm the entire time. You want to be better because you feel his disappointment. He knows everyone by name from the beginning before you meet him which is weird haha

Actually, he first came to LSU in 1980 under Stovall.

Actually he first coached at LSU under Jerry Stovall in 1980. This is Coach Jenkins 3rd stint in Baton Rouge. FYI - Pete also coached at USC when CEO was promoted to HC in 2013
edit: guess my reply was late to the party . I know in the mid to late 80's Jenkins primary recruiting area was NOLA. He was the main recruiter that signed a good friend of mine in 1987.

By offering him full time pay, part time actual work considering he doesn't have to recruit

He has served under five LSU coaches -- Jerry Stovall, Bill Arnsparger, Mike Archer,
Nick Saban, and coach O. Pete also has close ties to Dave Aranda, who asked for and got a meeting with coach Jenkins when he was in Hawaii in 2010 coaching the Pro Bowl. They have been close since that time.

And to think half this board was calling him some old man and why do we even have him on the staff. Idiots!

Sat behind Coach Pete & Tommy Hodson at a restaurant last yr & Coach Pete was drawing up defensive schemes on a napkin & he & Hodson were discussing the pros & cons. Man never stops coaching & his players, pro & college have all loved him.
