So you paid 10 to see a pretty bad movie? Might as well spend 5 more bucks to see a pretty bad movie but have a cool 3D experience if you're gonna take the time to go see it in theater. Just my opinion

Add 3D effects to a turd it doesn't make it a diamond, it just makes it a turd with 3D.

Thank you! As I was watching Avatar I thought it was a movie version of an old Sci-Fi story that I read as a kid, and was surprised that there weren't any references in the credits to the story it was "based on".

I couldn't remember the name of the story or enough details to find it by search, but this is definitely it.

Not so much "based on" as "plagiarized from".

Well yea, but I'm talking about my mindset at the time...while I was watching the movie I was still under the impression that there going to be some acknowledgement that the movie came from an already existing story.

The winners for this topic are definitely Avatar, The Phantom Menace and Godzilla.

I left The Force Awakens pretty unamazed. But it doesn't go in this category.

In 2017, yes

But at that time that was like the first huge 3D experience done right. And I don't think it's a good movie, but the 3D stuff was pretty awesome in the theater

Guardians of the Galaxy

Still convinced none of y'all liked this cheesy, unfunny pile of dreck. You're just afraid to admit it in front of the other posters on here. After reading the unrelenting ball washing it got on here I was amped up to see it. Halfway through I thought I had been the victim of a cinematic Rick-rolling. The 70s soundtrack that has been done hundreds of times before, aliens that make Star Trek:TOS seem cutting edge, a distempered rat doing a bad ALF impression that couldn't look more fake if it had been done with MS Paint, a monosyllabic tree root and a storyline so compelling I can barely recall any of it.

But, the self-professed cinephiles on here keep reassuring me that it was a hallmark of superhero storytelling so what the frick do I know?

The Alamo was a huge box office flop but I really enjoyed it and if you like history it's extremely accurate to what really happened. No fake Hollywood story lines

I didn't love the movie but it certainly wasn't horrible.

Wrong answer.

The movie at the end actually did this. Just as Ronan is at the edge of victory, he made his bad arse speech I'm sure he practiced in front of the mirror hundreds of times, all for it to be shat upon with Starlord trolling him with a fricking dance off. I just about lost it.

Of course the movie is one giant troll job, but it's a hilariously great and refreshing troll job. The joke just went over your head, and anyone who understood the joke found it incredibly fun and enjoyable.

The Witch was touted by many as the "greatest horror film in ages" and that shite nearly put me to sleep twice.

Spawn.

Spawn was everywhere back before the movie came out.

I was all in on the Nolan Batman, and sat amazed as this mess played out before me.

Don't care if it made a ton of money, or if it has some hyper-militant fans that threaten all dissenters. It was awful.

Talking to some of the Nolanites, I felt like I was in "the Emperor's new clothes". Nobody dared question a thing, when there was just SO MUCH to question.

Wasn't nearly as good as the others, but it was far from terrible. Therefore, doesn't have anything to do with the op.

Is the answer to the question "most hyped movie that ended up surpassing the hype?"
