Same tactic that "evolved" LGBT into LGBTQRSTUV.

Nice straw man.
No one said they aren't important. They just have nothing to do with the focus on hard sciences that the stem initiative is intending strengthen.
Your product development argument is asinine.

They did that in my town in Texas. They started building a STEM High School, now it is a STEAM High School.
Probably a bunch of butt-hurt parents mad their dumb kid would not get to go to the new pretty school.

If you focus on STEM education, there's already a place for the liberal arts. You just teach children to apply problem solving techniques to things like ELA and social studies. Adding the "A" for art is pretty much a pandering move.

I don't see the problem. Design is needed for things to be functional
Give me a break. Stop making excuses.
Also the issue with STEM was also to encourage people to not stigmitize it as nerdy and to increase diversity. Many different demographic groups were just writing off those field based off of perception.
So adding the Arts into it is about as dumb as it can be. It also isn't related to the other fields.

Seems perfectly in line with socialist dogma.
Dilute the most important or most powerful institutions in order to bring them down to the level of those that aren't as capable or as important.

What does a field like audio/video recording/mixing or nonlinear video editing fall under?
What about color psychology or technical writing?

Stem should just be "te"

Because learning art helps at learning math and science. Creative pursuits aid in understanding abstract concepts. Learning music has been proven time and time again to improve math skills. Learning art should be a part of a STEM education, but not the goal of a STEM education.

Any significant elements will be covered in the STEM curriculum.
You just want the finger-painting with elephant dung majors to say they are part of STEM - or something that sounds like it - or bring STEM down to their level.
This is all bullshite.

The objectives of the STEAM movement are to:
transform research policy to place Art + Design at the center of STEM
encourage integration of Art + Design in K–20 education
influence employers to hire artists and designers to drive innovation
None of that refers to folks 'finger-painting with elephant dung' as it falls within what dbeck was referring to- the mix of tech and art.

This is one of the reasons I went back to school for a second degree.
However, the sciences and math are very important, its just that they usually require higher level training (ie Masters, PhD) in order to fully contribute to a company.
Ever heard of actuaries and statisticians? A large number of them have mathematics backgrounds.
For instance you have polymer and material scientists who create synthetics and other materials used in manufacturing. You have medical physicals and nuclear physicists who respectively contribute to oncology and energy production.
There are jobs that are simply looking for someone with technical skills and it doesnt necessarily have to be a PE certified engineer. It mainly depends on the responsibilities of the job in question, as many companies still prefer to in-house train as no one program covers all of their business needs.

To be fair, the original "Arts" in STEAM curriculum were architecture, graphic design, and landscape architecture - all fields that rely heavily on math and engineering.
If you really want to scratch you head, most Catholic schools call the curriculum "STREAM" and infuse religion.

They can call it whatever they want, the jobs aren't magically going to appear
