There's all kinds of other shite you can do with it, but admittedly I don't use any of those features.

Ok.. Even if so, you could get a decent one for 50 and still save

I ordered the Echo Dot earlier today. Should I go ahead and get the regular Echo also? Not seeing the big difference between the two, besides playing music on the Echo.

Bluetooth an external speaker to the dot.

I've thought about buying more but nothing is set up for voice command in my house. If I could control everything it would be fine, but asking weather, scores, etc is still faster on the phone.

Bluetooth home speakers are like 20-30. What am I missing with this echo scam?

If all you want is a Bluetooth speaker, then it is not worth the money.

Besides playing music, it is a voice enable device that can answer questions, order food, create shopping lists, turn off lights, adjust your thermostat, send and read text messages ...all with out getting up from your recliner.

But otherwise yeah, a complete scam.

I can do that with my phone though and it's easier because I have my phone with me in every room

I don't have anything set up for that yet in my house either, but I'm thinking I might jump on board and also get the Echo. For the price, I could just use it as the sound system in my living room/kitchen area and then start slowly getting more smart home devices later to pair with the Echo and Echo Dot.

Some of the stuff you can do is awesome, but even the things like syncing up lights with it are meaningless for me. I don't leave my house pitch black (I have pets) so I don't need to tell Alexa to turn on my bathroom light when I walk in the door or something

What do you mean for the price?

The echo should be priced at 50, max.

There are several comparable products which do what the echo does without the Amazon logo

I bet by Christmas they lower to the 50 range. The scam can only last so long

Yeah it would give me an excuse to buy a new TV, I've seen people change the channel using voice command. "Alexa ESPN"

I mean the marked down cost of the product from $179.99 to $89.99; i.e., a sale.

Well, what are these comparable products you speak of?

I'm thinking I would use that more if I'm pretty damn comfortable on the couch or in the bed and I don't want to get up, I could tell Alexa to turn on/off/dim the lights.

Yeah, when i got my Dish Netowkr Hopper upgraded, the guy was telling me that you would be able to control everything with alexa. remote would never need to be used. She would work guide, dvr, channel change, etc
