Why did you feel the need to start this thread on an LSU message board. Marlin didn't even mention LSU in the interview.
He said he can't get any games scheduled against P5 schools in Texas or Louisiana. I might paraphrase a little, but:
"To some degree we have trouble scheduling"
"A lot of teams don't want to come and play. It's now, though, where teams don't want to play us in their venue."
"It's disappointing, because we want to play teams that are close. We'd like to stay in Texas and Louisiana."
"The thing that bothers the coaches is we tried to schedule a scrimmage against a P5 team and couldn't get that done."
The question was regarding P5 schools. So who is he talking about, if not LSU? Does he really have to spell it out for you?

Which doesnt make sense. Johnny was famous for scheduling some of the worst OOC opponents but yet we wouldnt schedule ULL?

My guess is Marlin wants a 3:1 deal or something like that. Problem is the Tigers will NEVER play in Lafayette. They don't have to, and I don't blame them. I'd love it if we played them in BR every couple of years or so.

It also took people a while to start calling Nevada-Reno just Nevada after the change in branding. The battle is won.
That's true. No argument with you on that point. But let me ask you this: Is Nevada any better in athletics because of that? I don't think so.

ULL is consistently stronger in multiple sports and it's sometimes a lose/lose for us.
I can't think of any sport where UL is stronger than LSU on a year end year out basis. Certainly in some years but not for any 5-6 year period. The one argument for them being consistently better than LSU in any sport was softball but LSU has surpassed them in that in the last 3 seasons.

It hasn't helped Nevada, but it's a much cleaner look, just as Louisiana.
I just don't understand the reaction by most people over this issue. Why would LSU fans be threatened by it? ULM has chosen their branding, and it's a good look. ULM rolls off the tongue much better than ULL. If the Cajuns will "always be dogshit" regardless of name, then what does it matter?

ULL's best sport is renaming... obviously no one can compete with them. The only sport they are competitive against LSU is baseball and even with all that "talent" the Cajuns didnt even make the NCAA tourn this year

LSU's political machine found a way to get the program sentenced to death. (read: Slam Dunked)
Naw Beryl Shipley's shady arse recruiting did that. I mean there has to be a reason why the university itself and the Southland didn't go to bat for him or the basketball team. If you are suggesting that LSU had control over the USL board at the time and the Southland Conf....well that is a pretty outrageous allegation.

When USL legally changed its name in '84, LSU's political machine again threw it's power around to get the decision reversed.
Meh....I think it's pretty clear this was an attempt to grand stand every other university in the state that wasn't LSU (an even an attempt on them in some ways). When it eventually got done it was done the right way.

UL has every right to hate LSU.
Every child hates his elders for a while....the problem with ULL is they seem to never want to grow up.

God forbid another state University attempts to better it's stature.
Even at the cost of worsening it's peers.....this is basically what you "hate" LSU for right....bettering itself at the cost of ULL right...so why can ULL do the same at the cost of ULM, McNeese, SLU, etc????

I wouldn't say that LSU feels threatened by it. But UL's attitude seems to be that LSU owes it something. In other words they feel that LSU should play them. On the other hand, LSU's feeling is that we don't owe UL any more than we do McNeese, ULM, La Tech, Tulane, etc. In LSU's mind UL's just another state school. In UL's mind they're the #2 athletic school in the state and they want to measure themselves against LSU. Two different trains of thought.

All time basketball wins head-to-head:
Louisiana Tech--88
SLI/USL/ULL --74

Nothing to gain? It's not like UL will boost RPI.
Agree 100%. Because playing all those other cupcakes improves the RPI so dramatically. We are so much better off for playing Wofford, North Florida, Texas Southern and let's not forget the MIGHTY NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL. Thank goodness we did not waste RPI rankings by playing ULL over these RPI boosting powerhouses.

Ull should measure themselves by the other state schools. They would enjoy any success in that light much more. Before any ull ers say that they can compare themselves to who they want. I agree but don't know why anyone would live in such frustration. Be like most from louisiana and pull for both except on those rare occasions that they play one another. By the way, ulm's ski team is much better than that of ULL.

P5 schools scared to play ULL
When was the last time ULL did anything of note in basketball? They were piss poor team last season. So, why would any power 5 conference team fear playing ULL?
College sports is run by football and in football ULL isn't even the 2nd best program in the state. That would be Louisiana Tech.
Posted on 7/5/17 at 10:15 pm to GVT
The writer didn't have his facts correct for one and for two, CUSA is a better conference than the Sunbelt.
So, ULL comes in at #3 in the state.
