Are the "Alaskan Bush People" phony?

I've watched a little bit over the years and found myself deep into it tonight as they find out the mom has cancer. Reading some news sites, they claim there is speculation as to how genuine the show is. Y'all know anything about this?

How so? I could see some situations being fabricated, but would be shocked if it's all bullshite

I just always assume that all reality shows are fake, scripted or managed to one degree or another.

I remember reading that the dad wrote a book years ago about living in Alaska , and they are living out the fantasy .
Something like that , but yeah it's fake and he has lots of $$$

Have you seen Alaska: The Last Frontier? That seems pretty real to me. One time a guy accidentally shot a bunch of gasoline in his mouth and ran around trying to find bread to chew on and soak it up. Didn't seem faked.
The whole show is basically finding food and not much of a "reality" show in the sense that there aren't any dramatic story lines about personal relationships. I recommend it if you're looking for an Alaska show.

The father and one of the sons pleaded guilty about two years ago to lying on forms saying they lived in Alaska in order to collect money from the state.

Yep. They are from Texas, not Ak. Kids spend more time in Juneau than camp when they are filming. The live in a lodge in Hoonah, almost every aspect of the show is fabricated.

Its fake trust me.. Every time so goto brown town they are getting paid to act. I can say that from being in a reality show.

yes 100% fake, one season had them filming in the wild and they are about 300 yards from a pizza place and eating there many nights of the week, as confirmed by the locals.

I quit watching the browns a couple of years ago when I read some of the news stories about those phonies. They were walking around acting like they'd never seen a cell phone, and this article was talking about how the kids had all uploaded a bunch of YouTube videos about living "out in the bush". 100% fake
I do like Alaska Last Frontier and the Last Alaskans. Those shows are more legit in showing what it's really like doing the day to day shite IMO

They know way too much about pop culture and the like for kids that "never had a tv". It's a guilty pleasure for me but I know it's fake.

Watch this they aren't acting this is how they live. Full disclosure the family has money and make a living being folk singers.

It's the phoniest show out there that does not involve space aliens or hidden treasure or Hitler surviving WWII. It's probably more fake than the Bigfoot shows (and they are completely fake).

All reality shows are fake. That's not to say that I don't like some of them.
I like to watch Mountain Men, but I know the guys in Alaska aren't living as rough a life as they try to show. Doesn't mean I don't like it and find the lifesytle interesting.

Dad would not be fat if he had to live off the land...FAKE!!!

One of the kids went to rehab and confessed to a lot of fake things in the show. The dad used to live like that by choice a few months of the year it sounds like. He wrote a book about it and now they all pretend to do it.

It's 100% confirmed pure fake.
All reality shows bend the truth, some pretty heavily.
Few just completely dismiss with the truth altogether like Alaskan Bush People.
They don't live in Brown Town and never have. It's also not remote. There's a pizza place right through the woods. They're not Alaskans. They didn't live that life before the show. The aren't computer and pop culture illiterate. In fact, a few of them used to be prolific YouTube vloggers. They don't even stay out there while filming. They live in a lodge during filming season. The dad wrote a book based on his vacations where he fantasized about the life the show depicts and the show is a fictional film version (not documentary) of his daydream.

Yeah it's Jewel's family. Her dad Atz seems like a cool old guy.

The worst is the ice lake people. They act like they are out in the middle of nowhere, but then you look at the lake and its right next to a small city.
