News is leaking slow on this one. Let's hope it's a false alarm.

UPDATE 1230

quote:

12:32 p.m.. - Chris Colster, spokesperson at the Arsenal, said gates are reopened on normal schedule but asked for "prayers for those involved in this situation." 12:24 p.m. - Some gates have reopened, Sparkman Center still on lockdown.

EDIT: looks like a false alarm, possible prank

A possible emergency situation is underway at Redstone Arsenal. A spokesman for Redstone says it could be a possible active shooter. All gates are closed at this time. The Marshall Space Flight Center sent an alert at 10:00a.m. Tuesday warning that a "situation exists near the Sparkman Center, RSA bldg. 5301." The message asked for people to avoid the area. An active shooter drill was planned for tomorrow, however, officials tell us the current situation is not part of the drill.

Maybe it isn't a false alarm.......................moran

No response to texts to father, mother, and brother who all work on the Arsenal (NASA, DOD, DOD). I'll update if I hear anything back.

ETA: Dad is at Michoud on a business trip thank god. They announced it there. Still no word from mom and brother who work with missile defense.

Not false alarm. Not a drill.
They've locked the base down. Shelter in place.

They're reporting its at the Sparkman Center. I believe that's where the Army Missile Command is located.

This is in Huntsville, AL if you're not familiar with the titled name of every U.S. Army post in the country.

Uh oh. One of the aliens got loose.

In all seriousness though I hope they get the situation (whatever it is) under control and none of the good guys get hurt.
