Started in pharma, did 18 years in medical devices..mostly beds and OR lights/tables, now in medical IT applications....IT sales is super complex, but it kills the other 2 money-wise and potential-wise...hands down.

Spine is very lucrative for reps. Every Rep is willing to bend over backwards for us to use their hardware. They all are very knowledgeable and I respect what they do but Tough field having to kiss arse your whole career.

The independent spine distributors make very good money but that is a dog eat dog business. I like watching those guys stab each other in the back and drop to their knees to blow a surgeon. Personally I enjoy being a W-2 with a huge bag that basically has a monopoly on a particular segment. I make about as much as they do but have a larger territory which requires travel.

I sold for Danek in the early 2000's when it was acquired by Medtronic and I used to hear horror stories about the spine reps and their distributors- burning product in the OR by opening sterile implants unnecessarily and then charging the hospital, stashing implants in ceiling tiles (this happened at a Phoenix hospital), distributors nickle-and-diming their reps, etc. I've been out of the loop for awhile and didn't realize spine was still operating under a strong distributor network- I would have assumed most were swallowed up by the J&J's of the world. I do know that back in the day along with breasts implant and orthopedic trauma gigs spine jobs paid some of the best in the industry with reports of reps making $500k+.

Ive been applying for medical device jobs recently. I have zero industry background so I doubt I will even get a call.

The Stryker reps make me wanna barf. The cheese/douche factor is off the charts.

Interesting. Haven't heard much about this but definitely to look more and be looking ahead for down the road.

I interviewed for a Stryker Trauma position once and the hiring manager was such a douche I intentionally didn't close him because I couldn't imagine working for that clown.
I have known a Stryker Endo guy and Stryker Power guy that were ok. The rest suck. It's like a meathead cult over there.

The reason will be that a very attractive woman asked for your job.

I know some of the endo guys too. They are huge meatheads and douches.

Sure as hell is a lot of "doctors" in this thread. Why aren't y'all working if you're so important?

Not comfortable saying, sorry.
Too small of a world.

It takes a very, very particular type of woman to make it in devices.
And most of the time has shite to do with their appearance.
