I know it's cool to hate on walmart and to act like a "concerned citizen" regarding what the company does to society, etc but here is one sobering, amazing fact:

quote:

Over a typical 31-day period like the month of March for example, Walmart generates about $40.5 billion in sales revenue (roughly $1.3 billion per day). To generate that amount of sales, it costs Walmart about $39.3 billion every 31 days to pay for all of its expenses: merchandise to stock its stores, shipping expenses, the cost of labor including fringe benefits, utilities, corporate income taxes, property taxes, payroll taxes, interest expenses, advertising, etc. After incurring all of those costs to provide the merchandise for consumers over a 31-day period, there’s about $1.26 billion left over for profits, which is also 3.12% of the $40.5 billion in sales revenue.

quote:

Think about Walmart’s 3.12% profit margin this way: For the first 30 days of every 31-day month, 100% of the sales revenue collected during that 30-day period (about $39 billion) go entirely towards paying Walmart’s monthly operating expenses: the costs of merchandise, labor, taxes, etc. In other words, it takes 30 days of sales during every 31-day period for Walmart to cover its costs and break even. Only on the last day of every 31 day period, after finally breaking even the previous day, does any of the sales revenue generated by Walmart go to its profits. Finally, on the 31st and final day of a month like March, the retailer’s daily sales of $1.3 billion become the company’s monthly profits (3.12% of sales for the month).

Contrast that with super cool, super awesome, super compassionate apple!!

quote:

In contrast, Apple’s whopping 24.2% profit margin means that the company can typically cover its costs to operate for 31 days in a little more than three weeks (23.5 days) and it then usually has 7.5 “profit days” every 31 days. That is, for more than an entire week every month, all of the sales revenue collected by Apple during those 7.5 days turns into profits for Apple’s shareholders.

Educate yourselves!

I used to put all kinds of personal stuff in my expense account. Probably made an extra 30 grand a year that way.

Walmart also saves a ton of money by paying women much less than men.

This should be no surprise. Wal Mart's mark up on products is razor thin. That's how the model works and why the mom and pops can't compete.

Just think. They'd never turn a profit if the government didn't subsidize their work force with benefits. frick Walmart. Pay your workers living wages and let them work more than 39 hours so tax payers don't have to pick up their insurance, etc.

I wonder what percentage of shite sold in both stores is made in China.

Think of how amazing life would be if all those jobs were here.

But then again Wal Mart wouldn't exist.

This is fricking stupid.

So Apple is better at making money than Walmart...I still hate Walmart for abusing corporate welfare, having shitty employees, and trashy customers. Their ability (or lack there of) to make a profit doesn't mean I'm going to start shopping there.

I don't know what I'm supposed to do with this fact

Maybe WalMart should learn to run more efficiently?

Wow that's a horrible contrast. Walmart only thrives because of its razor thin margins, but a tune of 3 billion dollars profit every month will keep Walmart going strong for a long time. most people pay way too much for a brand name Apple product, so Apple can charge the price it wants. Walmart has a different business model that is equally successful in a completely different way

Most people, despite their claims, like Walmart, except for their harassment of customers and bribery to entities such as Al Sharpton. If you want clothes or shoes that are comfortable and last a long time, you buy them at other stores. If you don't want to waste money on nonessential items and food or don't want to have to go to 8 different stores to get 10 items, you go to Walmart.

Jeez, he explained the shite out of that. It's not that difficult of a concept.
