We are thin on infield.
Might need to check out the juco ranks for a couple infielders

That's why the signed Bechtold. He was penciled in to start at third with Smith moving over to SS.

I figured he was a big time draft risk because he's already played D1 baseball at Maryland and he played well this season in JUCO. He would have had to plummet to end up at LSU.

So can someone with knowledge on this topic give me a rundown on what this all means? Is our recruiting class going to be a failure with losing all of these guys? I really follow football recruiting but not too much baseball.

No, knowledgeable people are aware that going into the draft there will be a couple of "draft risk prospects". On a year to year basis there's usually 3-6 players that you think have the potential to sign with a pro team.

The other half see the names of signees drafted early and call for the coaches heads wondering why they signed them but then get mad when division rivals sign them and they make it to campus.

For a college coach, the MLB draft is all about luck.

And it's no guarantee all of these guys sign with the pro team. Most will but sometimes a kid would rather play in a fun environment than ride a greyhound for 8 month s

was really hoping we could have gotten one of Enlow or Pearson though as class headliners.

How do you feel about the other pitchers committed?

*(not) a loss we can't overcome, right?

Going in to the draft Mainieri wanted to keep

one of Enlow or Storz

one of Pearson or Cabrera

All 4 of those players are headliners, Enlow stands out because he was a top 40 overall player in the nation.

It's a very deep pitching class, think depth across the board. Storz, Vietmeier, Keller, and Schroer are all very good high school arms coming in just off the top.

I think Cabrera is coming now.
With Pearson out of the mix he could play early as the 3rd or 4th outfielder.
Storz will be a good get as well.

I believe Pap will be our Catcher next year. Don't think he will go Pro if he is drafted late enough!

Pap will not be back. He's going to go high enough to sign.

considering everyone taken so far as gone, we are at 37/35 for next year's roster.

Delgado or LSU E probably has an infielder they can pick up late that can at least help with depth

pitching will be loaded next year

Good stuff. Sounds like a top 3 class is still within reach if things play out alright.

Enlow just really teased the shite out of us with the senior pics and whatnot. Obviously I can't blame him with the money he's about to make.

Just on edge that we properly replace Lange

Ok thanks. That makes sense and isn't too bad. I know we are losing a lot next year so was hoping we would have enough talent coming in to compete for championships still.

These incoming recruits know this and they want playing time, Enlow would have been given a shot to compete for a starters spot right away.

I do have to say Mainieri does a great job in establishing to recruits that LSU will not be used as leverage and he holds most classes in tact.

Enlow got offered a lot of money early this morning, it's no bodies fault it just happens.

Anyone got a background on the Twins Owner or GM? They have to be a fan of some SEC team.
