Restaurants with no wait staff but still expect tips

You order, sit down and wait for them to call your name. But you get your own condiments, refills, etc.
Everyone is paid a regular wage, so why should I tip you for doing your job?

I have no idea what type of place you are talking about.
I'm trying to picture this.
I go to counter serve places, but they will refill your drink and clean the tables after.

Everybody wants a tip. Tip jars everywhere you go now.

Just leave a dollar on the table and stop complaining

If I have to get my own drink and pick my plate up I just scratch through the tip line. I'm not leaving a tip if you only take my order at a counter.

Tips are fricking stupid in all situations.

Tip jars have gone too far. I was in an adult video/products store last week and the counter had a tip jar on it. It said "Just the tip" on it, so naturally I left a dollar.

I've never felt any worker at Bud's ever expected any tips.
There may be a tip jar at the counter that may get a spare dollar but not 'expected'. I just figure that's for maybe a special order or if you feel they have went above and beyond or something.

Tip jar usually is split by the staff and not just the host or hostess who takes the orders and who ring you up. It also goes to the cook, bus boy, etc.
Slipping them a little something because you are happy to get a clean table in a clean place, and good food and drink seems fair.

I don't mind tip jars, I'll gladly put something in one. I hate the credit card tip lines at places that shouldn't have them and sometimes I feel shamed into adding a dollar or two. I'll actually purposely avoid places like that to avoid the awkwardness of putting no tip right in front of the cashier.

But do you tip at Sonic? That would be a neat thread.

Those people don't make shite. Leave them a couple bucks.

Only if they skate my order out.

Love threads like these, shows all the cheapskates on here. I couldn't imagine being cheap enough to bitch about tipping.
