The state House on Wednesday gutted the membership of the thee-year-old Louisiana Law Enforcement Body Camera Implementation Task Force leaving only legislators, and three law enforcement representatives. Among the representatives stripped from the task force were: the ACLU, the NAACP, the Louisiana Press Association, the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters, the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the state public defender.
"It would appear that there are some voices and some perspectives that would be eliminated, particularly those advocates for government transparency, and I think that's unfortunate," said Marjorie Esman, executive director of ACLU Louisiana. Esman said she wasn't notified until after the House took action that she could be eliminated from the the group.

I read this yesterday and was confused. Wouldn't she WANT the bodycams? And the people they removed WANT the body cams. The people remaining might be opposed, no?

Gold.

And you get two downvotes. Amazing how many people claim to love individual liberty but have no idea what it actually looks like.

Good. If police have cameras then they get in trouble for doing illegal shite, and when cops get in trouble people get paid out in tax dollars. frick that.
Keep cops out of trouble, back the blue.

It's hard to understate how much good publicity helps the boys in blue. Removing them doing shady things from the public purview should immensely help that.

Two questions: What was she paid and who paid her.

Maybe it was such a circus with those a-hole groups present they couldn't have meaningful discussion....

If only the cops had body cams, Alton Stetling would be alive.
What did you say Ethel? They had body cams? Come on now, no way.
Aren't body cams going to solve everything?

I really feel like y'all don't understand that police really don't mind the cameras. It has helped more than hurt many officers, you just don't hear about that part.

Franz Borghardt, a criminal defense attorney, is the co-chair of the group along with Marcelle. If her proposed changes remain in the resolution, he'd be cut from the body. Borghardt said he was blindsided by the change – having received no prior word it was happening – and puzzled that Marcelle would pursue it.
"I'm at a loss, because a representative who holds herself to be a civil rights leader has just removed all the civil rights advocates from this task force," he said.
what a clown show

This is just so strange.
It's obvious she doesn't like, trust the police. Having body cams would prove misconduct if it happened. If it shows there was no misconduct, no harm, no foul, right?
All of the people she is trying to remove, once again, support body cameras.
If she would instead have tried to kick off all the LEO reps, at least that would make sense given her political base.

It's total bullshite right now but at least the cops will have to go through the pain in the arse of removing citizens' eyes after beating the shite out of and/or shooting them in 15 years once ocular implants are widespread.
So we have that to look forward to, at least.
