How would a loss this weekend affect your view of CPM?

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a CPM hater and I do think the Tigers will win this weekend.

But let's take a hypothetical that LSU loses this weekend. This would be CPM's 3rd home postseason loss in the past 5 years. Combine that with his CWS record of 1-4 in LSU's last 2 trips there; how would you view CPM's reputation/legacy at LSU if it happens?

If Cannizzaro beats Mainieri in a super regional, Mainieri will brag on the success of his coaching tree while he throws Beau Jordan under the bus for K'ing too much. Win/win.

The same as I've viewed him for a while now...mediocre coach at this stage of the postseason.

I wish these anti CPM threads would just stop.

I think this is where people are getting worn out with Paul. He's phenomenal at closing a season out and killing it in Hoover, making our hopes go sky-high. Then Houston and Stony Brooke happen. I give him a pass on last year. We lost to the National Champion.

A loss this weekend wouldn't really affect my opinion, just remind me to temper my optimism if/when we make another run next year.

It's definitely not all on coach. The players have layed eggs in many of those big games.

In your opinion, how much falls on the coach vs. the players?

There will be a meltdown on the board by those that want him fired and the same thing will happen if we go 0-2 in Omaha. Not everyone feels this way but this will be the reaction

None. It boils down to whether we think CPM has the best 10 players in the starting line up and he does a great job with this toward the tail end of the season every year. Then the rest is on the players to perform and execute.

If it were a one time thing, I'd put it more on the players. But, it's certainly a trend with his teams, so I think more has to be put on Paul. As much as he should get credit for his success, and he should, he has to bear the brunt of blame for his teams laying eggs. I say that because I think a lot of it is a team mentality, either a lack of focus, lack of killer instinct, or simply thinking the uniform will win it for them.

It might just be what baseball is now. You had 2 #4 seeds advance last weekend. But, last Friday looked so much like a midweek game in terms of focus, I gotta give Paul more of the blame than the players.

ETA: You can generally see a drastic difference in the way we play in Hoover vs the way we play after Hoover. Arguably, the competition is WAY better in Hoover, which only fuels our expectations, and perhaps his teams' sense of "entitlement(?)".

I saw something during one of Paul's interviews this year where he talked about how relaxed they are when they're in Hoover. Maybe it's not a sense of entitlement, and just nerves/tightening up. I don't know, but it's too consistent to say it's not a trait of a CPM team.

I believe a fall out is acceptable. LSU baseball fans may be spoiled, but we have every reason to be. Our fans give and sacrifice a lot for the university and team we love. No other school has the baseball fan support that LSU does. Championships should be the goal every year. I'm not asking to win the ship every year, but it's been quite sometime since they have sniffed the glory.

I wouldn't care for a loss but I'd take it as long as it was accompanied by 2 wins...

Houston is the one that I think we should have won. Stony Brook was the better team. CoC was the better team.

Stony Brook was hot as hell, but if it doesn't rain only when Gausman takes the hill, I think he wins that 2nd game too

Now is not the time for a thread like this. If LSU loses the series to State this weekend then, by all means, set your sights on Mainieri and fire away.
