re: Will Cannizaro walk Deichmann almost every at bat again?

quote:I believe this will change the put ons. Neither Watson or Smith are horrible with GIDP (plus Deichmann runs well, just makes some bad choices sometimes on pads) so there's little justification with protection.
With Watson behind Deichmann he has no choice but to pitch to Deichmann more now. Especially if there's already a guy on base, because you dont want to see Watson up there with 2 or even 3 guys on.

I don't think so. I think you can get away with pitching to him unless there's an open base with 2 outs

Can we please find a DH who can hit more consistently...Beau did not impress this weekend. He seemed to have several key strikeouts and popups. YES, he did have a double that allowed us to score but still.

Not with Watson coverin' his azz now......

Stats might not be showing it, yet, but his approach at the plate has indeed gotten much better. So there's some hope.
Follow up question: replace with who? Bryce Adams? Serious question btw. Is he the best available option, just not the best.

Beau is the worst. Every so often he gets lucky but he is consistently bad. He swings at the worst pitches that is nowhere close to a strike. His best offense is to get hit by a pitch.
Sometimes a weak hitter is in the lineup because of his defense. But this is the DH. Hard to believe that there isn't any better options as a DH. Definitely a soft spot in the lineup.

He hit like .200 during the regional....

Depends on PM. If Watson continues to hit at 5, AC may not be able to avoid Deichmann. It also appears that Watson takes pressure off of Jordan, not having to pick up after Coomes.

Who would you bat in his place at this point?
Your only real options are Woley, Romero, and Slaughter (if/when Coomes goes back to 1st). Woley might not be a terrible option, but Romero has look worse than Jordan this season, which is a shame considering some of his play last season. Other than those three you've got Reid and Breaux with any sort of experience. Don't think anyone else is left on the postseason roster as an option.

There aren't any good options at this point. Just lamenting the fact that there isn't anyone better as a DH. I just hope the DH spot isn't needed at a crucial point in a game.

If Slaughter is in the lineup, he'll be at 1st and Coomes would DH.

I was operating under the assumption that Coomes would be put back at first once his injury heals leaving Slaughter on the bench as a DH option. But obviously, if Coomes is available to bat but stick with Slaughter at first, you go with Coomes as the DH at this point.

I'd tell Canni before the game........I'm walking Rooker every time you walk Deichmann. An eye for an eye

Or he may target them for a beaning as Cohen did to Mason Katz

Then take into account that with runners on third with one out....you pitch to Deichman and a ground ball to short stop scores a run. Walk Deichman and then a ground ball to short gets you out of the inning. It's not just about the home runs.
except Watson probably isn't getting doubled up

Both teams will try to avoid letting the other beat them.
Rooker didn't win the regional. I mean the one fluke horribly played pop up in shallow right field was the was the hit that won them the game, but it was probably Rooker's worst swing of the weekend.
For the weekend Rooker was 6-20 (including the 8th inning pop up) and 6 strikeouts.
I bet we will see every bat on the floor in their dugout. When AC dumped all the bats out and said they will stay there until they start hitting, the team as a whole started producing.
I bet we hear it no less then 5 times this weekend during the game. Rally bats on the ground.

I doubt it, since Watson has been ripping the cover off the ball.

Put him as lead off batter

Anybody can get doubled up on a ground ball hit fairly hard to short or second. Same can be said for a hard ground ball to third.
