If they weren't to use Poche, why not Bain or Peterson?

I'm not melting about Poche starting, but I wouldn't have minded Peterson getting the nod.

Keep Gilbert available for the bullpen.

Utah Valley >>>>>> Texas Southern

Our bullpen is over-rested and lacking post season experience. This weak 4-seed is a gift from NCAA and we are just going to trash it but throwing our senior who should be pitching in AA pro ball right now.

Poche threw 92 pitches vs the 4-seed last year then was a hero in the "if necessary" game.

BUT his arm was tired in the supers and he only lasted 5 innings. This is a bad move against the worst 4-seed we've ever had.

es. Let's overuse him so his arm is tired during the supers. Ignore the fact that Texas Southern is the #265 team and we are #4.

Yeah cause things like Jackson state (247) circa 2013 and Southeastern 2014 never happen.

To be fair, the Jackson State game was never in doubt and that Southeastern team was much better than this Texas Southern team.

In doubt or not, it was too close for comfort with a 4 seed.

Hell the ULM game in 2012 was tied until the 7th.

I like the move. If we were to lose game 3 with Walker, which I don't think we will, no team in this field has the pitching depth to go into game 4 with us. This move in my opinion is the safest way to make it to supers.

I don't mind this move. But would've rather seen Peterson Beck or Gilbert

I like having three starters remaining just in case

Poche shouldnt pitch.

these guys get a week between starts. an 8th or 9th day at this point is not going to throw them off. This isnt the MLB where you're expected to get the ball every 5th day

give Bain the ball, let our O put it in play, let them throw it around a little bit and let that be it

I never said Poche wasn't going to start. I thought it was very likely. It's a dumb move. The only reason Poche should have started is if LSU got a 4 seed with any chance of giving them a game. When did you start sucking Paul's dick all of a sudden?

I trust coach Mainieri. He cannot control the weather.

The other team just won conf tourney. They have one or two good pitchers. It just takes one well pitched game to put lsu in losers bracket.

How about THIS as a theoretical possibility...

Regional

Fri-bullpen takes care of TSU
Sat-Lange
Sun-Poche

Super

Fri-Lange, we win
Sat-Poche, we win

CWS starts and Walker has not pitched at all since SEC Ty Champ game.

It means that PM believes we will beat SLU/Rice with Lange and has confidence that Walker will close it out. If he doesn't start Poche, he realizes that he might not get all 3 of his starters work this weekend.

I am not sure why everyone is having trouble with this.

So let me understand this. The last couple of years everybody complained didn't have a third starter. This year LSU has a legit third starter and CPM is setting up his rotation to maximize those three starters and people are still complaining? Poche goes out throws 50-60 pitches LSU gets a big lead you pull him. He is available for Monday for at least a few innings if need be. If not your rotation is set for supers everybody got their work in and everything is good. Give me Poche on 2 days rest over whoever the other team will start any day of the week.

I'm fine with this as long as Poche is able to eat up as many innings as he can on Friday and they're able to get all of the game in.

If this turns into a 3 inning start before a washout and he's burned until Monday at least then I'll question existence.

Also this may be a pawn move as he continues to check the weather leading up to tomorrow. If it looks like the game will be stopped multiple times just go with the midweek approach and get some guys innings that need the work ala Peterson and Bain.

Oh man. I thought I took LSU baseball seriously. No pitching decision will ever cause me to have an existential crisis.

A lot greater chance of rain Sat-Mon. At least Poche pitching tomorrow has a better chance he won't get rained out a few innings in.

So you're fine with a distinct possibility that walker wouldnt throw again until the CWS?
