No you havent.
Youre telling me more people would want to go to a theater to watch Birdman than a Pirates movie..... you couldnt be farther off

Are you saying that the Chinese arent people?!
I'm saying they have notoriously shitty taste in film that is ruining cinema as a whole. If it's anything more than "good guy fights bad guy" then they hate the movie. They demand moral absolutes and simple concepts in their movies, not anything smart or vaguely defined.

I think the problem with the way this argument is being framed is that the comparison is between an original film vs. a sequel in a franchise. Pirates 4 & 5 have a built in audience from prior successful movies in the franchise. In a vacuum, yes Pirates 5 will make more than Birdman. But look at its returns in comparison to the previous 4. Declining returns. Which tells me these movies are losing viewers who are already predisposed to liking this movie.
And before you point to the billion Pirates 4 made to show it wasn't in decline from the original trilogy, I'll point out that using worldwide numbers is a poor comparison due to the overall boom of worldwide viewership in the recent past, skewing those numbers.
So people are still going to see Pirates movies in higher numbers due to the name brand, but the movies are so bad and less entertaining than they would hope from a Pirates film, that the brand is slowly decaying.

Want has nothing to do with it. So many people wanted to see Batman vs Superman. Not many ENJOYED it. That's my point. More people ENJOYED Birdman after leaving theaters than the people who saw Pirates. The entire argument has been ENJOYMENT. But you keep changing the argument from enjoyment to want.

It has gotten ridiculously expensive to go to a movie (concessions etc) and often times other patron's behavior make me not want to go.
That plus 65" 4K HDtv with surround system at home makes the wait tolerable.
Which is why ratings sites have gotten more important. I don't want to go spend minimum $15 just based on a cool trailer.
Studios need to get used to the modern world. People don't go shell out at restaurants just based on ads in the newspaper either; they're using Yelp and food boards.

Birdman Audience Score - 77%
Pirates 5 Audience Score - 71%
So yes that's what I'm saying

Rising ticket prices have made families and general moviegoers think twice before going to see a movie. No one wants to pay $12.50 a pop - plus concessions - to watch a two-hour-long movie that sucks.

I don't know why anyone wanting to pay to go see either of those movies would give a shite what the rotten tomato critic scores were anyway?
A lot of people don't realize the distinction between critics and audience ratings.

and movies trump their high RT scores on the ads. I saw some ad earlier for a movie that comes out in a month and they said "100%" on rotten tomatoes.
Probably two reviews total . lol

Not all people who love movies like Transformers are simple-minded, but simple-minded people are a significant portion of that franchise's fan-base. That's not necessarily an insult either- simple-minded people aren't necessarily stupid, they just prefer simple thoughts and premises and big action.
The problem with some of these people though may be that they do not understand Rotten Tomatoes scoring system because they again think in terms of black and white and see a RT score like a test grade.
Of course, in reality a movie could reach it's score with wildly different opinions. For example, a movie people either love or hate could end up at 50% with 1-2 stars from those that loathe it and 4-5 stars from those that love it. On the other hand, a different movie could be considered average by all critics with half giving it 2.9 stars and half giving it 3.1 stars for the same score. Those are the ones you have to watch out for.
In the same vein, I've seen movies really low, like 20-30% where nobody really hated it, but most agreed it was just below average.

Agree
Critics give their own personal opinion, since when are they supposed to think for the average movie goer?

That's a huge problem

For certain types of movies, I go based on previews alone. Not critical review. Baywatch and Pirates fit into that. These movies are not meant to win Oscars so why even bother with a critical review. If you like the actors, trailers, etc then go.
I can tell you that critical reviews matter even for these movies. The media loves negative headlines and anytime a movie gets a bad review it is blasted non-stop on tv and internet headlines.
So, I don't think the unfairness comes from a negative RT score, I think the unfairness is in how much attention that gets in the media for a movie that should probably not even be critically reviewed.
