The MRGO Rocks, Easiest Route

So, I was thinking of giving the rocks a go this year. I've launched from Breton Sound before, but never tried to go out there. What's the easiest route to get out there? Mind you, I am very good about putting my boat into the mud.

Spoil canal right across from the launch. Go search on Louisiana fish blog I think they have a safe acces route through there.

It's actually a pretty good wealth of knowledge

Spoil canal has been marked in the tricky areas w large black pipes. Keep them on your right going out and left coming in. It is easy and well marked now.

South Shore Marina is where I launch, by the old yellow store. Owner is cool and has some good shrimp. 10 min boat ride.

Oops.. could still be 10 mins. Depends on how fast your shite will run.

there used to be an obstruction in the middle of it towards the end, but it's been gone now, so you're good there

Launch at hopedale, follow the 73627 bazillion poles out there

The spoil canal was very dangerous to run in the past; you really had to know the water, or you could run aground easily. It is now marked with large poles which prevent you from bottoming . Be careful at the very end of the route. You have to veer right to go to the rocks. If you continue straight, you will run aground. I do not know why this area was not marked with poles. Two guys ran into the mud when I went that way a couple of weeks ago. It is also pretty easy to go across MRGO and run the route to get back to MRGO behind the dam. You probably need a GPS to do this. Once you come out about a mile or so from the dam, all you have to do is run straight down MRGO.

This is how I get there and I have used my phone to guide me through. Not that bad with two people. I really need electronics on my boat lol
