They are in the driver seat to replace the Cavs in 2 years honestly.
So many options. What should be their play here moving forward?

Trade Thomas while his value is still decently high. Draft whoever number one and build toward the future. Every move they make should be focused toward having the best team possible 5-6 years from now when all of these top picks they have are reaching their peaks. All of this and they don't even have to tank thanks to the Nets.

Trade that little short guy they got.

5-6 years? How about 1-2?

Agree.
Get a good vet for IT, draft the new PG this year, sign Heyward, and then draft top 3 again next year (lol at Nets)
I think Boston is 2 years away from running the East.

quote:No. They need to see how good his replacement is, and it will also be difficult to get back equal value bc his contract his so low. They can get unknowns, but they're unknowns for a reason.

Trade isaiah for andre drummond, then draft ball or fultz

KEEP THE PICK
If I'm them, I'd rather bet against the future of the Eastern conference (who are the rising eastern stars? Embid and Simmons?) than bet against LeBron right now.
Build something that gives you a 10-12 year window + many playoff appearances vs trying to go against LeBron head to head for 3-4 more years.
By going thhe draft route, it allows them to stay flexible down the road. In 4 more years, see what the missing piece is. You're boston, players will come if you have a competitive team + assets.

They need to be worried. By the time Lebron slows down, Embiid and Simmons will begin ruling the East.

Wow I didn't realize trades in the NBA are easy. I can't believe the Celtics haven't thought of that guaranteed trade.
ETA take your lumps and keep building and getting experience, every great championship team/player had to get over the hump over an existing player/team

I thought this was their last year of Nets picks, but damn, they have the Nets pick next year too.

Draft fultz, get Hayward and wait.
Trading Thomas doesn't make sense, NBA trades are usually trade a dollar for 4 quarters, don't see how that helps them. Also, he only makes 12 mill a year I think, which makes it even harder to get back value.
Wait until mid season and trade next years #1 overall likely nets pick to the bulls for butler then if you want to make a run at it, if not, keep that and draft #1 again.

This. Probably trade IT as well. Love what he did for this team this year, but his defense is a liability and his offense isn't going to hold up as he ages. By the time all the young guys on the Celtics are in their prime, he'll be past his.

Trade Thomas and draft Fultz.

Trade Thomas while his value is high for moar picks and they'll be picking top 5 the next few years without having to tank.
Sign a baller like Hayward and draft Fultz as IT4's replacement
Let all these picks develop and gel, and they will run the east in a few years as the Cavs decline

Well the good thing for Boston is they also have Zizik and Yabu coming in which will help them with size.
I would look at replacing Amir with Ekpe Udoh from Euro if I were them.
