Mondo (Jr. at Lafayette HS) with dad, Greg Duplantis (LSU All-American), after his national record clearance in New York. Greg is a former professional pole vaulter, and his PR is 19-01.25.
5.7m (18.7 ft.) is considered the "elite level" by which all PV'ers are judged. Kid is doing at just 16 yrs old, and he will likely jump 19' this year.
Once he turns PRO he will make way more $$$$ in Europe based on money paid by sponsors. Kid is very marketable and has a high upside b/c of his age and potential. I'm sure NIKE, UA, Puma, Addidas, etc... would love to sign this kid to an endorsdement deal.

Dumb! Tell me about the Swedish domination in Olympic vaulting.
And to the person that says they "invest more in vaulting than the USA...well, that's just moronic.
The USA decatholete could probably out vault the beat Sweden jumper. Historically at least...i have no clue of the last year or so

Just checked..2026 Olypics Sweden men's BEST finish in T & F was..........10th in discus!
Not one single other male even advanced to finals. NOT ONE!
He's going there because the team sucks and he can probably easily make Olympic team. And make cash. What's their tax rate? Lol

Yeah, this is just incorrect.
Mondo competes for Sweden because they don't have a qualifying meet for international championships. Instead the national federation decides which of the qualified athletes to send. There are rarely more than an handful of Swedes who meet the qualification standard in the Pole Vault. In the US, athletes have to compete and place in the top 3 (most of the time) at the national championship to advance to international competition. The PV is a very finicky event--bad days happen. Sponsors typically include pretty substantial bonuses for competing at international championships. Choosing the easier path is a wise financial move.

Yeah I'm sure your mother or her background means nothing to you.

And spent his summers visiting family in Sweden and competing for a Swedish track club.

His dad won the Louisiana State Championship as a freshman in 1978. I think he set the state record. In 1979 and 1980 he made it to state, but did not clear the opening height (he waited too long to start vaulting). In 1981 his first jump give him the state championship. His second jump set the state record. His third attempt was for the national record, but he just missed.

Is his dad the former LSU pole vaulter Greg Duplantis?

Mom is from Sweden and they paid more for him to compete for them than the US would have

If he was good enough to compete in Olympics for USA he would.
Same goes for alot of other sports, especially baseball and softball. Just last year LSU had two softball players play for Puerto Rico in the World Championships. Many use the loop hole to make rosters when they can't make them in the USA.
