My son played Mario kart on n64 for the first time at my cousin's house and now he wants one so he can play it at the house. I hate to spend money on something old for one game but if I do get it I'm going to get goldeneye 007 so I can play my favorite game as a kid on it. I'm just worried about buying one and the n64 console doesn't last long and I lose money on it. Anybody had any experience with them lately?

My brother in law found his a while back unpacking some boxes. We had a blast playing Goldeneye and a few other games. If it works, go for it. Several of the places around here that sell used items have them in stock. And the games are cheap too. I think I saw a console for $40-50 and games were $10-15 each.

not goldeneye or mario cart. you'd be shocked how much those are selling for.

Yeah, I'm sure they are more. I always go to ebay for stuff like this though. You can find bundles of games sometimes with good titles in there.

I bought one solely for the purpose of playing goldeneye and mario kart. Luckily i had the games, because I saw Mario Kart was selling for $50 on eBay.

You can run an emulator on a Fire TV Stick and play those games with a $15 bluetooth controller. Very easy to setup

A lot easier than trying to use the 64 controllers with their short cables with a 70" TV

I have a Raspberry Pi 3 running RetroPi with N64, Sega Gennesis, SNES, NES, Atari 2600, etc. Also runs Kodi.

I also have Pihole on it to filter out ads for my entire house.

If you have one of the Nintendo Wii consoles you can download it for $10 on the virtual store.

I mean, it's not like you will be dropping a ton of money on one.

Mario Kart runs fine, but Goldeneye runs like garbage.

These consoles were pre-internet. They're tanks that don't require software updates.

I still have my N64 as well as my SNES and they both work perfectly.

Cartridge style systems tend to last virtually forever. I still have an NES system from when I was a kid in the 80s that plays.

Time to make some money. Combined, my sister and I have over 100 N64 games stashed away. Including 4 Mario Karts, a couple Goldeneyes, and several Smash Brothers. Plus games like Perfect Dark which was a cult classic.
