Just remember to "play the tape all the way through to the end" when a cold beer sounds good.

A few honest questions:
Are you single? Is so, what do you do for entertainment/fun or better yet, how do you socialize with friends and meet people?
My biggest struggles come with these so any advice is appreciated.
I'm single.
Yeah, social life is different.
You're social circle will shrink. That's just the honest truth, and the no dating in the rooms definitely puts a kibosh on dating within your closest circle.
I had to find different ways to meet people. I used meetup.org and joined a couple of hiking groups, a board game group (big nerd), a movie group and a young entrepreneurs group. I've met a lot of people my age through there. It's different but still good.

The things that were fun are more fun. Football games, crawfish boils, the beach, weddings. All the things I thought I needed beer for are 100x more fun now. It's crazy how it works.
Meet and socialize with people is more enjoying and not as stressful. It's amazing how many more people want to hang out with someone that lives right. Sporting events, dinners, church, etc. The groups get as big or stay as small as you want and you're not just meeting people you'll never remember. Like anything else, it takes time and doesn't happen overnight.

Booze, cocaine, benzos and opiates.

Yeah, I didn't frick around.
It was awesome until it wasn't.
I wasted a lot of good drugs sitting in my underwear playing Madden near the end.

Funny how it always ends up being severe isolation at the end. I used to leave bars with friends just to go home and drink by myself

if you should have quit 10 years ago, you must be late 20s at least. Life is just getting started.

Glad you're alive.

there are some good volunteer groups, etc. for things to do to keep your mind off the old habits, and to me, these are the things that give me a high. Well, not quite the same high, but at least they make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that I've done some good and feel appreciated. That is really what the human mind needs.
The drugs try to self induce your warm feelings, whereas these activities really do create it.
It can be a hard line to manage your impulses and cravings, so kudos to you for the 6 months and may there be many more good months and years to come.

I'm a Buddhist and that is part of my recovery program. We're not to take any mood altering substance so even da kine is out for me.

Congrats
The first six months was the most difficult time for me. You're rolling now.

He said he went to rehab so I'm pretty sure they weren't dishing out weed in the detox unit. Depending on what you are coming off of weed won't really do much. Maybe help some nausea but alcohol/benzo's need to be medically supervisored for going cold turkey. Our bodies aren't meant to handle that kind of stoppage after serious abuse

Keep it up buddy

Keep rocking and rolling. My sister just hit four and a half years and is definitely enjoying life a lot more now than she was before. I hope your life follows that trend as well.
