Not sure if this says more about my fanaticism as an LSU fan or my compulsion to be correct, but I noticed this quickly during the ESPN replays, and I don't see that anyone else has...enjoy.

Thanks to the angle of the sun being almost directly down the 1B line, you can see a clear gap in the shadow between the USCe first baseman's shoe and 1B until the last pic in sequence. Case closed--ump made a great call:

Good work! I didn't even notice that.

Was this the call where the USCe coach came out and flipped out? I honestly thought he was going to get thrown out.

But, but, but, that can't possibly be right. This team isn't good enough to win without the umps helping us. This makes no sense at all.

A gump on tSECR argued that the lack of shadow was from his foot being on the bag but off the ground. No use posting over there

Wow, nice job there. You could see the foot movement but not whether he was touching. That sun really shows the gap. Surprised we didn't have a camera angle down the line.

You can also see Watson's reaction in the video. He was signaling he was safe, knowing the ball beat him. My guess, he could see the foot off the bag.

Nice thanks for the great Rant Investigation.

When I saw the play I thought immediately that he was off the bag by an inch and framed it at the end, this totally proves my theory

Great job! I didn't notice that at all live or on immediate replay since there wasn't a good camera angle that showed his foot, I thought we got away with one at the time. Turns out the ump nailed it.

Except for the fact in the "last" one, chronologically it's the first one....And you can't see if he has the ball yet. No one doubts he touched the bag at some point, we are doubtful he stayed in contact when the throw pulled him off.

Changed those pics around and you have proof positive he wasn't on the bag.

Question being, when did he have the ball in possession

You can also look at the right side of first base. It is flat because foot not pressing on it, but then it rises up when he pushes against it. By that time the runner had already stepped on the bag

i really don't understand the people that think it was a terrible call. I know umps make mistakes but no way do i believe an ump in that position would blow that call. He had to have seen his foot off the bag to call it. The announcers kept saying it was a bad call and his foot didn't move when actually his heel lifted up slightly...and they continued saying it was a bad call with no evidence from replay. Had that been reviewable the call would have stood.

Good job putting that photo montage together!

You should email that photo sequence to Luke Johnson at the Advocate. He covers LSU baseball for the paper and this morning he was harping on how LSU "benefited from a non-reviewable" bad call.

His public email address is: ljohnson@theadvocate.com

Didn't get to watch the game. Why was this play non-reviewable?

I could see the foot off the bag clearly. I thought the announcer was ridiculous in continuously harping that it was a bad call.

Look at the angle of his foot. When he catches the ball, it is leaning away from the bag. About a half second after he catches it and the runner's foot hits, he leans back and the foot is actually touching the bag. But for a split second his foot is off and that is the very time the runner's foot hit the bag.

It was a great call. The announcers were HORRIBLE in not recognizing that.

I don't believe these pics are definitive, but during the telecast and now using your pics, it's apparent that the guys foot may have been off the bag. The ump had a great angle, he immediately signaled off the bag, and really there is no evidence he blew the call.

If It were a MLB game the call would not have been overturned.

Nice work, but I could see him stretching his toe back towards the bag in slow motion...only reason to move it towards the bag is simple, his foot wasn't touching the bag to start with...
