They have programs which do what I do randomly now but us humans keep outperforming them by miles due to common sense.
If we can prove our worth for another 16 years I'll be done.

Some, like lab work or soil testing (borings/CPT/augers, etc), but you're still going to need someone to review the findings and make sure it jives with real life.

Am geotechnical engineer. If anything, it's one of the more interpretive pieces of civil engineering, so it will be tough to automate.

Reviewing findings from the field, I agree. But I think the labwork could be more automated (atterburg, UU/CU/CD, water content, unit weight, etc.). In a sense CPT's are already kind of automating it moreso than it was previously.

Yeah I saw that CPAs have a 95 percent chance of being automated. I don't really believe that.

Yep, gonna call BS on that one.

My job is ranked 353 of 366, so very unlikely that I get replaced by a computer.
ETA: and according to the first link I have a .6% chance of being automated.

One thing to consider would be the transition to digital currency and the declining use of hard cash. If the transaction was digital to begin with it makes it much easier for a computer to keep track of where the money is and where it is going.
Also look at the rise of automated tax systems like TurboTax over using a CPA.

I cannot see auditors being replaced by computers anytime soon. As far as CPAs yes Turbo Tax is great for minor cases, but there are way too many business owners out there who just hand receipts in with zero prep work.

For the most part I agree with you.

Right, so if someone came up with a program that integrated credit card transactions with an overall tally of sales revenue, plus sales tax, etc, that's data that could be plugged into a spreadsheet or computer matrix automatically.
I think we are years away from that, but I also think it'll happen eventually.
