The U.S. Department of Justice is releasing its decision on the Alton Sterling shooting investigation at 11 a.m. at the U.S. District Court in downtown Baton Rouge Wednesday (May 3), according to a source with direct knowledge of the Justice Department's schedule.

The source said federal officials would not say whether they had decided not to bring criminal charges against the officers who killed Sterling last July. But the officials also wouldn't dispute the reports from national news outlets onTuesday that the officers would not face federal charges.

Gov. John Bel Edwards was also notified this morning that the report would be coming Wednesday, though the governor wasn't given a time for the release.

If the federal government decides not to bring charges against the officers, Louisiana has the option of bringing charges of its own. That decision would be left up to Attorney General Jeff Landry. Landry has declined to comment on what he might do so far. The attorney general would have to review the investigative material provided by the federal government -- which he hasn't received yet -- before making a decision.

Thank god a person that spoke with the official. If it was an animal, we'd have a whole different story on our hands.

WAFB said DOJ to meet with family at 11. I suspect announcement will be shortly after that. (I'm sure they will ask family to ask people to remain peaceful...)

I'm going out on a limb here, but I am going to predict no Federal charges will be brought against the two Baton Rouge City Police heroes.

I have a serious question here.

So, it's going to be mostly black people that are mad and out protesting this decision right? I hear all the time that they don't like to be grouped together in one group(community) yet how many of them are directly connected to the Sterling family and why are they upset. Upset enough to go out and protest?

A white guy gets killed by police and I don't know him, I'm at the most WTF-ing but i'm not losing any sleep or protesting anything.

RA'd for sticky. About time we heard some actual information. I will say this, I think it is fricked up that the family wasn't notified that an announcement was imminent and instead had to find out via the media due it being leaked. Yes, I understand that's how leaked information works but still, they should have in some form or fashion given those directly involved a heads up.

Just my opinion.

Looks like they timed the release to coincide with a rainy day..... maybe that is why they didn't release yesterday

Baton Rouge P.D. has been preparing for this day. They are highly skilled and bringing in their most sophisticated equipment to combat the situation.....

When people say the family should of been notified first, I sure hope they are talking about the police officers and their family, as they are the only victims in this story, the hell they have had to live through the last 9 months because some criminal forced them to act. I hope they can go on with their lives in peace now and the community should give them a big thank you

It's a red state...plus considering what tragically happened on airline...charges being pressed would be like a 3-1 comeback....

Odds aren't in the plaintiffs favor
