re: Peterson says he's never played on a team that they didn't stack the box against him.

Or he will make Ingram turn into crazy Ingram. When Ingram is pushed he looks incredible.
Agree 100%. Regardless of stats Ingram ran his hardest in his contract year. That was the only year I didnt think he looked mediocre. He ran "Chris Ivory" hard that year.
Either way the Saints win!!

I could see teams still respecting Brees and giving AP running room early.
All it takes is one big run from AP during a game and that box will start adding men. Then it's over with because if they're forced to go man, Drew will pick them apart.

Yeah I noticed that too. Ingram is the starter, guys. Deal with it.
Whoever is playing better will get the carries. It doesn't matter who gets labeled the starter.

Sean Payton will have something to say about that. The helter skelter use of him and his running backs will lead me to Ingram will see less carries this year.

Are we forgetting this team went out of it's way to stat chase Ingrams 1st 1,000 yard season. Minn never had to do that for Peterson
He's losing that starting spot this year you can bet on that. You homers cam love Ingbum all you want AD will be much more effective and SP will no choice, Ingram slow, Ap fast

Ok but the idea that Ingram is going to "sub in", at least when the season starts, is silly.

My thing is. If you think for one second that AD is just gonna be happy to be the backup
Hes tGOAT running back that sees Worford and other beasts leading his way with a GOAT QB keeping defenses back.
If AD is healthy and Kamara is as advertised MI will be pouting hardcore by midseason.

Im not an Ingram fan at all. I think hes underwhelming. Mediocre back. Not great but not too shabby either.
Ive just been really frustrated with the decisions at RB under SP. He has game changers like Chris Ivory and Khiry Robinson and lets them go. I get that Khiry had an injury but even when he was healthy he didnt see as many touches as he should have. Then theres Pierre Thomas. Extremely underrated and underutilized. Obviously was used a bunch in certain seasons but he should never have been splitting carries. Deuce rarely split carries. PT was that kind of RB. Always ran hard and fell forward and maybe the best screen back the Saints ever had. Shouldve had well over 1,000 yards every year.
Im hoping AP takes the #1 spot from Ingram and if hes healthy I dont see how he doesnt. I posted this highlight cut of AP and for all the people writing him off as a has-been, you watch that film and I dont see how hes lost a step at all...

One interesting note is that Hightower had more carries than Ingram in 4 games last season.
vs Seattle: Hightower 26; Ingram 3
@ San Fran: Hightower 23; Ingram 15
vs LA Rams: Hightower 15; Ingram 14
@ Carolina: Hightower 12; Ingram 7
Odds are Peterson will have more carries than Ingram in at least a few games this season even if he remains the backup.

Unless he's seriously lost a step, I just doubt that he will be a backup. More of a 1A and 1B and ride the hot hand.

Ingram is not mediocre
What was he second in yards per carry?
Also pretty solid at catching the ball out of the backfield.
Give me a list of the nfl RB's you'd take over Ingram.
LSU fans think that unless you are a hall of fame RB you are mediocre. If they don't see 7 yards per carry like they see on Saturday's in college football they think the guy is a bum

We'll just have to wait and see what Peterson has left. I don't think they will work him too much, early.
I think the understood plan is to ease him into games later, after Ingram has had a chance to get going some. That way, you can close the game with Peterson in the 4th quarter.
In the playoffs, you might see full AP and the others rotate in and out.
But that's just a guess on my part.

its not the players, but playcalling.
run:pass
ingram: 50/50
Kamara: 25/75
Peterson: 75/25
defenses will adjust and its going to force Peterson to still fight loaded boxes and Kamara to deal with 7 in coverage. There needs to be some balance for all 3, sets where kamara goes to the slot with ingram/peterson in the backfield, etc. That's my biggest knock on this not working with Peterson.

Mark Ingram is going to be the backup sooner rather than later. The distinction is and will be such that even Sean Payton won't have a choice. I'm sure he'll wait a week or 2 longer than a coach who isn't nuts.

super risky.
if you ask any team in the NFL right now if they would prefer to take Ingram from us or Peterson, most if not all would say Ingram. He's not a homerun hitter, but he's above average at everything.
there's not too many guys you'd prefer. there are guys who are in the same realm/group so you wouldn't swap, but clear upgrades not too many.
1. Ezekiel Elliott - young and better
2. David Johnson - young and better
3. Le'Veon Bell - young and better
4. LeSean McCoy - bigger homerun threat
5. Devonta Freeman - healthier, bigger homerun threat

This will be like Drew and Reggie but better.

i think mostly.. a loaded backfield will help keep a secondary more honest.
probably even help Fleener some if that's possible
for Payton to be so sure about the plan for AP (according to AP) and then move up to draft Kamara.. he must have an awesome vision.
if not.. oh well.. 7-9 awaits.

YPC is an extremely overrated stat for judging the effectiveness of a RB since its so heavily dependent on the OL. Yards after contact is a better measurement. He may be really high in that stat, Im not sure. If he is then I take back my criticism of him but based on the eye test I just dont see him as an especially powerful or shifty runner. Like I said, I dont think hes terrible I just think hes an AVERAGE runner. Nothing wrong with being a "C" student.

Of course. That and his pass prot and ball prot is pretty stout. Both reasons why I think he stays on the field when better RUNNING backs have been on the roster. I never said I think hes weak in those areas.

I dont keep up with other NFL teams anymore so this list might not reflect current trends...
Johnathan Stewart
Marshawn Lynch
Khiry Robinson
Le'Veon Bell
Ryan Mathews
LeSean McCoy
Ezekiel Elliot
Devonta Freeman
Chris Ivory
Jamaal Charles

Fair list. Not sure I agree with Stewart and I especially don't agree with Robinson
