Figure It Out Yourselves

Thought I would share the Advocate article this morning. You guys may recall, I posted a few weeks back the competition was very close because the guys, but in my opinion, I thought Jack was making a good push to start.

I know what the guys say in the article, but can tell you they not only would prefer a Special Teams Coach....but an actual kicking coach. For such an important position, I am always amazed that larger school do not budget in a special coach for kickers. Most STC have no idea how to coach kickers. I know NCAA has cap on the number coaches on staff and that there is a pending measure to add one or two...but, man...for such an important position, you could find a guy that knows his stuff and bring him on board as your cheapest paid coach.

Anyway....Geaux Tigers....will keep ya'll updated.

Coach: Practice until you can make it through the goalposts consistently.

Kicker: OK.

I don't think this warrants a full time coaching position.

Special teams would be in better hands with no one coaching them rather than Peveto still on staff.

The few recruits they lost because Peveto was fired is a drop in the bucket compared to the game day fiasco special teams were, and to think Miles thought peveto could run the defense. All Chavis hire did was prolong the agony with Miles.

Culp admitted earlier this spring that the trio, also competing at kickoff, has struggled in that regard. Kickoffs have troubled LSU in the past.

“We haven’t been very good,” Culp said.

There’s plenty of time to improve, of course.

Are they referring to this spring practice or past games?

If I were a former college kicker, I would become a special teams guru and learn how to coach all aspects of ST. An actual kicking coach that could also coach special teams would be in high demand, IMO.

You know how F. King feels about paying for "punting coaches"

And I really want to get behind the "ST groupthink" approach but I'd feel a lot better with a full time ST coach that can double as a recruiter (like a McGaughey...come home Tmac! Or bdp if he could actually coach)

Then again the saving grace is "can't be worse than bdp."

Pffftttt!! Miles didn't have a Special Teams Coach for his last 3 years at LSU.

He can be at practice and meetings, for instance, but he can’t speak to players during either.

So I read it like this...

McMahon (who is allowed to be on the field per quote above) is standing next to Culp and yells: "hey coach xxx tell Connor to swivel his hips more"

The five assistants overseeing special teams are running backs coach Tommie Robinson (punt team), secondary coach Corey Raymond (punt return), offensive line coach Jeff Grimes (field goal team), outside linebackers coach Dennis Johnson (field goal block and kickoff teams) and receivers coach Mickey Joseph (kickoff return).

That whole scenario looks like a "delay of game, too many men on the field, not enough men on the field, no way we get the FG team on the field for a last second FG with no timeouts remaining" nightmare in the making

Wing's dad was a part time kicking coach a few years ago. You can bring in a guy like that for practices to work with kickers. Aim at the upright and adjust.

Special teams coach handles the one on one coaching of the kickers/punters. Most of the time the kickers and punters are solely kicking the entire practice and working on their technique. They aren't really involved in the practices until it's time for the special team period in a practice. They use film and record their kicks every practice and watch film almost everyday with the special teams coordinator to see what needs to be improved in their mechanics/technique. It's really all they do the entire practice lol. Unless les miles is your head coach, then, you will probably have to do the "big cat drill" because that means so much as a kicker or punter. What a dumbass. I'm so glad he's gone. Before some of you want to bash me for saying that about les, you may want to check the way he ran/over worked our team in practices. He's a maniac. Thats why we would always have alot of injuries in spring and summer practices because the players were so fatigued their bodies didn't have time to heal and made them vulnerable to injury. This is coming from the players and coaches that were on the team/staff with miles saying that. They love the tempo and structure of the practices with coach O over that of miles. Our team always looked like they lacked that explosiveness at time under miles and looked to get worn down quicker than coach O's teams. You have to figure that the way miles kicked their asses in practice had something to do with it.

So it's back to special teams in the Dinardo years then. Had some friends that were kickers and a cousin that kicked back then. They had absolutely zero direction and were left pretty much on their own to practice.
