Makita XT269M

I've researched and looked at so much stuff lately, I'm ready to be done with it.

Does the price on this Makita set seem decent for the specs, or is there another set out there that's a significantly better deal?

ps, primary use is around the house type work, and small diy type projects.

i prefer orange over teal. that's nearly what i based my decision on... aside from rigid's battery warranty.

at this point going with color seems like a logical reason to me. too many choices.

I bought a 20v Lithium Ion brushless Porter Cable set from Lowes after Christmas. The batteries last forever. Still going on the first charge and I use them most weekends for small projects. They're "on sale" most of the time. I think I paid $130.

Thats a great drill set, no doubt. For what you describe though, this Porter-Cable 20V Drill Combo Set ($131 after using code TRIPLE15) will more than adequately do the job and costs a lot less. I've had that set for 2 years and it's tackled every houehold DIY project I've thrown at it, including building a pergola and swing for the backyard.

I have the Makita Rotary drill and that thing is a machine. It drills easily in hard concrete and Jack hammers the hardest ceramic/thinset that has bonded to the concrete.

Unless you are a carpenter, I'd save the money and buy a lower end set.

My rigid set is going on 4 or 5 years now flawlessly. Got the drill, hammer drill, reciprocating saw, circular saw, 3 batteries, charger and bag for what you are about to spend on that Makita.

I bought a 20V DeWalt drill about a year and a half ago. My FIL bought a 18V Makita set shortly after that. Using them side by side building a duck blind last fall the Makita out ran and out powered the DeWalt by far. I now have a full Makita set and haven't looked back.

Same one I mentioned. Glad it is holding up well. I always swore by corded tools, but these are pretty powerful, and unlike my last cordless, hold a charge. I also never had a driver before, and it is so much better than a drill for putting long screws in.

That set is an absolutely awesome package. We have 3 here at work and run them all 40+ hours a week. They get used and abused and just keep on going. That said, do you need that kind of a combo for what you're going to use it for? I have a Bosch 18V combo package I bought for home use and it does everything I need it to and more, for $100 less than what I paid for the Makita sets.

I have the 18v Makita combo that is not Brushless. I have been very pleased with it. My choice came down to the Makita or the Milwakee and I chose Makita based on lighter overall weight of the drills.

It does make a big difference between brushless and standard products. Brushless will way out perform

I absolutely love Makita tools. But for basic shite around the house there is no need to go high end

It makes very little difference and it comes at the expense of tool life. Converting DC to high frequency AC to run the motor at a much higher RPM and relying on gear reduction to make up for the loss of torque compared to a brushed DC motor only makes sense to those sold on marketing hype. Brushless tools are cheaper to make because the feedback circuitry and control logic is already a factor with Li-ion batteries anyway. I'll chose brushes I can easily replace myself over a potted and completely unserviceable motor controller board any day.

I have a makita impact drill, sawzall and circular saw. They are great. The rest I have is rigid and ryobi (just a drill). I'm slowly replacing my tools with makita. Nothing against the other companies I just really like makita. I have a couple of batteries so now I'm just buying tool only makita stuff.

That looks like a great setup. Can't really go wrong with any of the top manufactures now a days.

Side note: I love that on the link you provided, all the "with free..." options are $138-$159 higher in price with the only difference being the "free" gift. AND the bluetooth radio is the most expensive option.

I have been looking into new power tool combos lately. It aggravates me that all of them come with 4-6 tools I am wanting or needing, but also crap I don't want like the radio or flashlights. I wish one of these manufactures would offer a combo kit without them. I don't want to pay for them if I will never use them. And they are really a stand alone item for those that do want them. I'm not saying the radio is cool or possibly useful, just that I don't need it adding extra price for me not wanting it.

I even priced out buying all the bare tools and batteries separate to a tune of $120 savings and the same exact price if I bought an extra pack of high-cap batteries. BUT then I wouldn't get that handy dandy carry bag. Oh well, fire up the tunes and turn on the spot light.

/rant

TL:DR, it can sometimes be cheaper to part the set together if you are going over the 2-tool basic combos.

Get the black kit. The CX200RB. It's brushless, will do everything a home owner needs, and it's one of the cheapest brushless kits on the market. Plus the batteries charge in half the time as dewalt or Milwaukee

$219.00 at all Stine Lumber locations.
