I called the exact same BS on his excuse.

Notice every move he is making does not address or acknowledge how bad the offense has been recently.

We are 5-4 now so that's 15-6 down the stretch.

The past several years he's said we failed to develop a 4th starter and now he's going to end his development to have an extra bullpen arm on the weekends? We didn't even use all our guys this past weekend If I remember, Bain and Reynolds didn't even pitch against a&m.

You don't think inserting Woley for Slaughter acknowledged that?

We haven't developed 3rd starters the last few years, we have that now. This move is to help get those bullpen guys work during the midweek as well. It will hopefully help him determine who can be more trusted on the weekend.

Yeah but he did that for defensive reasons.

1) He's said Slaughter was benched because his defense was taking a hit.

2) He's putting Slaughter back in the lineup.

NOTES

– Jake Slaughter will be back in the lineup at first base Tuesday, Mainieri said. The freshman sat the final two games of the Texas A&M series, which Rankin Woley starting in his place. Mainieri indicated Slaughter remains the team’s primary first baseman, but felt he needed to sit the rookie down for a couple days once an offensive slump manifested itself in defensive mistakes.

Has our middle relief really been the problem? Bain has looked great in long relief, Beck had pitched great, and Reynolds has been fine in spots. Gilbert and Newman have been great on the back end minus Gilberts blown save in Saturday.

Peterson and Kiel have looked shaky and I still don't trust bush.

But, what does Hess give you that you don't already have with Beck, Reynolds or Bain? I just don't see where he fits.

How deep does the bullpen have to be? Last weekend, we used our closer (Gilbert at the time) for 1 inning, our set up guy (Newman at the time) for 2 innings, and never even used our most solid, healthy arm out of the pen in Bain. If the midweek starter goes 5 innings, you still have 4 innings to get some guys work.

As much as guys on this board tell the Negative Nancies to not over react to one week in baseball, Paul Mainieri is over reacting to on blown save, especially considering we are just getting back healthy our usual closer. I guess none of the Coaches Committee members sees the hypocrisy in that.

He was okay vs TCU... that's it.

Let's not put Kiel in with anyone other than Strall...

Reynolds has sucked mostly.

“At this point, he’s too valuable to burn him up in the middle of the week,” Mainieri said.

Why can't these kids throw 5-6 innings on Tuesday and then be available for 1-2 innings during the weekend? When did it become taboo for pitchers to throw more than once a week?

God help them if they get to pro ball and have to pitch more than once every 7 days.

CPM needs to set him up for success by having him relieve to start an inning. Guy is green, no doubt, but he does have a big, lively arm.

Anyone know the status of McKay? Sure would love to see him give us some meaningful IP's.... guy came with all the hype and measurable.

The last thing I've read about him was from very early in the season that talked about him still recovering from off season surgery. No details beyond that though.
