But the way we do it, and I believe it will work out in the long run, is at least 3 accounts, one for all the money to go into and pay bills out of, and then we each have a separate checking account where we effectively get an allowance to spend on whatever we want. That way if I buy something stupid, or she does, there's no argument over it.

All our banking accounts are combined (savings, checking, hsa, etc) Credit cards are combined. Our investment and roth IRAs are separate. The only reason for that is before we got married, both of us had different investment brokers that we each liked and never combined the accounts. but we invest in both of them equally.
My wife handles all the bills and finances (besides my investments). I just pay for it all lol

This is our scenario. We also have our own "personal allowance" accounts that we put spending money in every pay day, but I'm the only one working right now so it all comes from the same place.

I make sure my girlfriend doesn't know about my wife and I's joint account and vise versa.

Everything combined. I manage the finances.

Mix.
We have separate accounts for independence and so we can buy gifts without the other seeing it in advance. We also have a joint account for bills that we both contribute to.

We have separate accounts bc we were independent adults when we got married. Also a little laziness because of all the autopays etc that are set up.
This is us as well. We have discussed joining our accounts...just never got around to doing it. I pay all the bills, we both bank with Chase so a few taps on our phones and we can easily send money to each other.
Even though we have separate accounts...we still discuss large purchases with each other. Usually if one of us is spending more than say $200-300 on an item...we are letting the other one know about it first.

I make about 3x as much as her so she can't really tell me anything about stupid purchases. I don't look at our account to see what she's buying mostly cause I don't care.
I also own a business that I can pull cash out of for hooker/blow money if I need
She has her moms credit card for things like $300 shoes

We kept it separate for our first few years. After we had our first kid it got too difficult to maintain separate accounts. I handle all finances now. bills, investments, savings, taxes, etc. We also take a cash allowance that we use for all entertainment, eating out, & non-essentials that we buy for ourselves. This makes sure we don't go over our budget.

Really surprised some of you OT ballers even bother looking at the checking account or checking with partner to see if its okay to buy 300K yacht.

Combined.
I earn, she spends.
She has full access to everything, but has no clue whether we have $1 or $10,000,000 in our accounts and frankly doesn't care to know.
It's worked for 7 years and we aren't broke yet, #fingerscrossed

Separate. We each pay different bills but it comes out about even. My wife sucks at saving and I don't want her in my account. Her aunt was screwed over by an ex husband who cleaned out the accounts and left her broke, so my wife has always wanted to keep things separate anyway.
