You're debating on $3.25 instead of $2.75? Come on man

I always put them in the differential/transfer cases. Probably Overkill, but it definitely doesn't hurt anything to get more particles out.

The plug I am looking at is around $35. Supposedly has a super strong magnet.

I doubt you will see much difference in a $35 one and a under $10 one. The stuff I get on mine would be described as like a very fine graphite powder.

if you told me it didn't do a damned thing more than a quality oil filter then I wouldn't be surprised

It wouldn't do enough to guarantee the engine would last longer certainly. Good oil filters are enough and I think a high quality air filter is more important in stopping abrasive particles from getting into the engine that what the oil filter does afterwards.

If I recall I had a Chevrolet 2500 that came with a magnetic oil plug from the factory.

Only seemed to collect very very fine particles.

I recently installed a fumoto quick drain valve on a car of mine. Seems like more value for your 30 bucks than a 30 buck oil plug with magnet.

You're driving a truck worth $40 grand and worried about spending $35 for piece of mind?

I have heard of adding magnets (rare earth) to the outside of the filter. The plug magnets don't really pull the metal out, they just act as a tell-tale and let you see metal when you do changes.

Why have a plug at all? Get a Fumoto and a filter sleeve and call it a day.

I wonder if the fumoto would get damaged or something under there.
