I found some that's dirt cheap ($700/acre). I'll need to fly to get to it but most of remote Alaska is like that.

Is it water frontage? The land won't go down in value. I love the idea of buying 40 acres off the grid

Pretty certain you can find land for cheaper than that in the lower 48.

do you plan to live on it? I inherited some land in Florida. Its in a subdivision. I've had it for years. I've also been paying property taxes to Charlotte county for years. I can guarantee you I will NEVER get out of it what I've paid in taxes alone. So I'm inclined to think your "cheap land" is cheap for a reason, meaning it won't sell easily and you'll be stuck being responsible for something thats more of an aggravation than anything else.

Is it through the DNR? You'll have to get it surveyed if so. Where is it located?

since you didn't say where in Alaska you were looking I guess your question is more about the pros/cons of being remote and off the grid. I have a place in south TX that's a 10hr drive from my house and only accessible by boat or plane

I wish it were closer because I'd love to go more often but when I do it's paradise on earth not having to deal with the general public...just family and like minded friends and no supervision or visibility to johnny law

Not really sure how much "investment" versus "albatross". That far away, I am thinking more of the latter. I would want something closer by. Then again, I have just found that it is just cheaper to rent a damn place for a few days and go. Let someone else worry about upkeep, utilities, and taxes, etc.

Sounds high if you can only fly there a couple times a year at significant cost. I bought 40 acres for $1500 per acre, but I can get there in my truck in 2 hrs. And it has timber$$$.

I was stationed in Alaska for 3 yrs so here's my take:

Cons:
It's Alaska & will be cold as hell
Earthquakes
Being in a remote location
Earthquakes

Pros:
$700 per acre
It's Alaska
