Natchez, MS and the lack of tourism compared with other quaint weekend getaway places

Anyone feel Natchez isn't/hasn't marketed itself as a destination city for quaint bed & breakfast options in addition to historical sites, restaurants and boutique shopping compared to a Savannah, GA, Charleston, SC, Fairhope, AL and Fredericksburg, TX just to name a few.

Best karaoke scene in the south.

No, I do not feel that way. The problem with Natchez is its location

Natchez is nice but it's in the middle of nowhere and it isn't really easy to travel too

Throw Vidalia in that list

Natchez is a beautiful place. It's unfortunate that it has become so run down.

Natchez will remain a quaint town until they get an interstate.
It's been a while but it was always a great do nothing weekend place with some nice B&B's.
Lots of remarkable old mansions to tour and a some interesting places to eat. A few places to shop but it never has seemed to decide what going to be.
Gambling, antebellum period, civil war history, shopping, restaurants, Indian village, riverboats, Natchez trace, balloon festival, karaoke mecca, B&B destination, etc...
Make up your mind Natchez.

It's a mosquito infested swamp to where their logo is "Come see our past slavery!" Do you really not fathom why it's not a popular tourist spot?

Lack of easy interstate access hurts it.

I keep driving to Vicksburg. Its quaint, even prettier and has a great battlefield park.

Love Natchez. But...
-the shopping sucks.
-lack of cool restaurants.
-surrounded by trash such cash-n-flashes, shady gas stations, etc.
-too many thugs.
-did not take advantage of the river. (built a huge casino)
-mall is outdated and tacky. No good anchor stores.

Interstate through Natchez to go where? West to east or south to north?
Posted on 3/22/17 at 9:11 pm to Paul Allen
All but one of those are out of range for,

Where exactly is a swamp in Natchez?

Plus The World is just across the river.

I find the downtown antique/furniture shops not bad for an evening of pilfering around.

Slick Ricks, The Camp, Cotton Alley, The Castle, Steampunk...need I go on? This is one of Natchez's strong suits.

Granted. Though it's to be expected considering the demographic breakdown.

The Pile of Debris is gone. I haven't been in the new one, but I hear that it's alright. The Grand Hotel was built to overlook the river, and there are a few respectable establishments along the bluff.

Also granted.
I'm not one to say that Natchez hasn't got its warts, but there's a lot that also makes it nice for a little weekend trip and different than so many other "historic" towns. No, it'll likely never be Charleston. But it's still nice.

Natchez is an absolute shithole. What would they market as an attraction? The bluffs?
