Benches on Bourbon Street is just an obstruction for drunk people to walk into and trip over when Bourbon is shoulder to shoulder crowded during Mardi Gras, New Year or any special events. On normal nights, it'll just end up being a place for drunks to pass out and throw up all over. Trees and planters will end up being puked and pissed on too.
You know what's an even even bigger obstruction for drunk people than benches? fricking cars!
This plan trades car traffic for benches, which reduces risk. Tell me I'm wrong.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE STATUES?!?!
With all the crime in this damn place, the stupid Mayor thinks people who get their "feelings" hurt by historic statues are an urgent priority. Just when you think Democrats have reached the bottom of PC, they continue to amaze and divide the citizens!

Do you see a lot of cars driving down bourbon?

So if they permanently block off the roadway, how does mitch the bitch propose that all of the bars / restaurants that only have frontage on bourbon receive deliveries?

If I'm not mistaken, the plan would prevent cars from crossing bourbon. So yes, cars do that all night, including nights when he street is bustling. It's a huge hazard.

They have devices that block traffic during big events that prevent traffic in busy areas

when is mitch's time up?

Yeah, because the car traffic on Bourbon Street is absolute murder.

How about ramping up police presence on bourbon and removing all the loitering thugs that decide to shoot each other because shayquan fricked orangelos girl or stepped on his Jordan's.

Has the police presence increased or decreased? Been over 5 years since I've been out in NOLA. Is it less police or just more shitheads?
Years past trouble was always there but seemed you had to look for it?

Bourbon is no worse than it was 5 or 10 years ago. Or canal or rampart or Decatur

I haven't been in since 2015, but the police presence was much less then what I had seen in the past, especially for Halloween weekend

Yet you run your mouth like you live in the Quarter.

The criminals get free housing, food, education, etc. but giving them a bench is going to turn their lives around???

wouldn't be a bad idea to block the cross streets in the entertainment area....but you could use the same sort of barriers that are used to block off bourbon in the evening....
one of the more interesting facts I picked up reading the history of Bourbon Street book was that beer could be delivered by hand on a cart from the American Brewery (which was where the Royal Sonnesta is now)
that being said, it may be worth looking at something like the electric carts that the Coca Cola guys use in the Pentagon...

No natives allowed in the Quarter...that might just be the ticket

The hell I did. I engaged in this discussion, but never presented myself as a native. I love the FQ. I am a total tourist when I am in town, and hate to see or hear that it is becoming less safe. I can drink, eat great food, and geek out over the history.

shite to hide behind...i like it.
Seriously though, stop handing people 5 beers at a time at 3pm, for starters.
