I just got back from the D.R. today. Brugal was the rum of choice the entire week.

Oh yeah, in the DR that's all you get. It's their national rum. My friend's mom is from DR, and she got me started on that stuff.

A friend just gave me a commemorative bottle of Zaccapa for my birthday. Haven't tried it yet. What's it like?

Very nice.

For my day to day drinking of rum, you can't beat this bottle. Runs about 30-35.

I really wish one Louisiana company would step up with a good sipper. There is nothing out there right now.

...don't say Bayou Select. That's already been addressed.

I don't drink rum often - if I'm drinking it's usually a screwdriver or Wild Turkey American Honey neat. However, my current favorite drink is Bayou Rum-based.

1 shot Satsuma rum liqueur
1 shot Silver rum
1 shot Spiced rum
1 shot OJ
1 shot pineapple juice
1/2 shot simple syrup
1/4 shot grenadine
squirt of lime

Since the key ingredient is Bayou Rum Satsuma LIqueur, I just go ahead and buy their Silver and Spiced rums as well to give them props for producing the Satsuma. And the bottles just look so nice together. I also like supporting local products.

I've never been much of a liquor drinker unless it really tastes good - I couldn't even force myself to drink hard liquor in high school or college. But this combo tastes damn good when you're in the mood for a "fun" drink.

I prefer the rums of Donner Peltier in Thibodaux over Bayou Rum.

I don't think either are great but if I'm buying local. I don't mind Kicking Mule either for a light rum.

This is really good but expensive (~$90):

A little cheaper but still damn good (~$50):

Very good for the price ($30):

In terms of spiced rum the local Bayou Rum does a really good job IMO. New Orleans Rum has a lot to be desired.

I normally drink my rums with ginger beer and lime. Sometimes I make Painkillers (with the original Pussers Rum):

Rum is really under rated here in the US. IMO rums are the easiest drinking spirits on the market.

I seriously think if all the bourbon drinkers tasted Zacapa XO they'd be newly converted rum drinkers.

We go through gallons of Sailor Jerry's. It makes a great dark and stormy. I also substitute it for bourbon in a whiskey smash sometimes. I like it with ice, on occasion.

I'm also a fan of the Flor de Cana line of rum
