Read the Dr. Ferber book.
Cliff note: ignore them, and they will eventually get it.

4 months is way too young for cry it out IMO. We didn't do cry-it-out until 10 months.
Your baby is probably hungry and is going through a schedule change. They'll do that every 2 weeks until they're 18 and move out of the house.
On a serious note, I would suggest supplementing with a little formula (if still breastfeeding) before bed. It'll stick with him longer.

Walt, please!!! No, do not give your baby Benadryl. It's funny sometimes when crazy responses to a serious question are given. It's not funny that some with less experience in life have less sense than to know not to do what is suggested. How would you feel if harm came to someone's baby because you were being funny with your response?

probably a sleep regression
we actually found out that putting him to bed a little earlier would help him sleep later, so worth a shot
we also use the magic merlin sleep suit, which kicks arse. dude looks like the marshmallow man though
this is not my baby, but here is the suit

4 month old is a terrible sleeper. We've tried formula (he is breastfed), adding rice cereal to bottle, Merlins fricking sleep suit. None of that shite has worked. My oldest son slept like a champ starting around 8 weeks, we got him on a schedule and he took to it easily.
Not the new little one. FYI, he isn't waking up every 2 hrs bc he is hungry, bc he just snacks a bit and goes back to sleep.
We got lucky with #1, hopefully this phase passes quickly.

My son rarely slept through the night until he was two. Every kid is different.
Good luck

That must be why my baby has had nothing but wellness visits since she was born. You're wrong, it's OK to admit it.

it happens. my boy started sleeping through the night at 11 weeks old and then at about 4.5 months old, started waking up multiple times a night. We are going nuts trying to figure what caused it or how to fix it. I think we have hit the point fixed scheduling and teaching him he doesnt need to eat at night/letting him cry it out a bit.

Jesus. Must be rough to be ignored at a young age. Being a parent doesn't stop just because the clock hand is on a certain number.

growth spurt, also maybe start throwing some cereal in his formula so it's heavier on his stomach, obv increase the amount y'all feeding as well(how much is he currently eating?)

I can assure you my child isn't ignored at all. You're just an ignorant slap dick trying to look cool on a message board.

Don't rush so fast to change your baby's habit
you need to wait. babys sleep cycle do change. my 12 month old's sleep cycle is now different than at 4 and 8 months

From having children and multiple nieces and nephews, nobody can truly answer this.
Every child is different. Some naturally sleep great, some sleep like shite.
It is always funny how people assume what worked for their child will work for yours. They are freaking humans, just like us. Their sleep patterns and schedule will be different just like with adults

This x 100.
My wife has friends who have kids similar in age to my daughter and they bounce ideas of one another about parenting tips. Every kid is different and every kid sleeps different. My daughter is 16 months old and rarely sleeps all night still.

No it's not.
At 4 months babies transition into being a little more grown up. They do not instantly fall into REM sleep as they did before. Hence why they also don't sleep as much in the car, or basically just pass out anywhere anytime.
It takes more to get them to sleep, and it's also a weird transition period where they are too big to be swaddled but they still may have their startle reflex. This will cause all sorts of differences in their schedule.
As for crying it out, yes they can, and it's not too early. You know your child, you can tell by their cry if they are pissed the hell off or they are still sleepy and just fussing or getting comfortable.
Rice cereal can help, it will make them feel fuller.
Start the routine now:
Bath (if it's time for it)
Bottle
Book (read or sing)
Bed.
Every single night.
I've got a 2 year old and a 5 month old and we went through the same thing at 4 months. Stuck with the routine and now she will only get up once. Some nights more. We also transitioned to sleeping in the crib, unswaddled.

Just something for everyone to consider regarding baby rice cereal. There has been much research that points to the arsenic levels in baby rice cereal being high enough to affect cognitive development.
Personally, we have moved to starting our kids off with oatmeal and regular organic baby food like peas, squash, etc. Our 5month old seems to eat it all just fine despite not starting on something like rice cereal.
