Cubs traded Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel for two former first-round Draft picks in Addison Russell and Billy McKinney.
Jeff Samardzija played 16 games and Jason Hammel played 13 for the A's
Hammel resigned with the Cubs during that off season
The A's gave the Cubs Addison Russell for a loan of 2 pitchers
Shark w/ A's = 2.4 WAR
Hammel w/ As = 0.0 WAR
Addison Russel w/ Cubs = 7.6 WAR

In their very first draft the Saints traded the #1 overall pick for Gary Cuozzo, the Colts' backup QB
No mention of Robert Parish and Kevin McHale yet?

They might have helped the Rangers but they wouldn't have helped the Braves to a championship. The trade was awful at the time but outside of Elvis Andrus none of those guys has had a consistent pro career. Career war numbers for Elvis Andrus is 21, Feliz is 4.6, Satly is 9.5, and Matt Harrison is 7.5. None of those guys would have been the difference for the Braves moving forward. Adam Wainwright trade haunts the Braves a lot more than the Tex trade.

That Marlins trade of Miggy Cabrera wasn't so good.

Astros getting bags from the redsoxs
Yessir. Was going to post this. They got Bagwell for an aging Larry Andersen, who was supposed to be the missing piece to Boston's bullpen for a pennant run. He pitched exactly 22 innings for the Red Sox, then left after that year to go to San Diego.
(He did pitch well for the Red Sox...they made it to the ALCS but lost 4-0 to Oakland)

quote:I forgot about it until I read your post. I was a big Baltimore fan during that time. While Pappas had a pretty good career Frank Robinson in my opinion is the reason the Orioles won the World Series in his first year there. He also won the Triple Crown. Baltimore was loaded back then.
Who can forget Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas for God's sake?

The Tigers didn't win the WS that year. They lost the ALCS to the Twins. Alexander started two games in the series and allowed 10 runs in nine innings.

Gotta give the Vikings credit for Jake Reed too. He was a solid WR for a number of years.
Obviously Dallas won the overall trade going away.
