Almost ten years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull hit theaters and after years of promises and rumors and dead-ends, it’s official: Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones, the two-fisted archaeologist with a thing for punching Nazis and recovering ancient artifacts, is returning for a fifth film due out in a little over two years.
According to an official statement on the Walt Disney Company’s website, the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie will arrive on July 19, 2019 and the whole gang is getting back together. Harrison Ford will return as Indy, Steven Spielberg will step behind the camera once more, and Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce. Here’s what you need to know from that statement:
Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.
“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

So Spielberg already raped Indiana Jones, now he's returning to the scene of the crime to kill him and jack off on the corpse?
No thanks, Shaft is out

Damn near 30 years in between this film and the last one made.

I'd rather an action Jackson sequel

Why did they skip 4 and go straight to 5? I don't get it.

Are there any action movies with a really old lead that have been good? Clint Eastwood did In The Line Of Fire where he played an ornery old secret service agent and that wasn't bad, but it's really hard to pull of a believable old action hero.

Liam Neeson was like 58 when Taken came out. I liked Expendables 2 and they're all old. Terminator Genesys had old Arnold. If that counts.
That's all I can think of.
The most recent Die Hard was awful.

You forgot Eastwood in Unforgiven. Very believable old badass.
I guess that isn't exactly an action movie though.

That's a good question. And as Vermilion pointed out, it will be almost 30 years since the last one, not 10 as the OP article stated.

There was a 4th Indiana Jones?

Ugh. Just re-cast him.
To me, Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones isn't necessarily Harrison Ford.
What would make Indy "not" Indy is to have him lack the physicality that's central to the role, which is what you get when you cast a senior citizen as Indy.
There's also a timeline problem. Age Indy, and we're stuck in the 60's with him.
Indy's time, to me, is the 30's.
If I ran the franchise, I would re-cast everyone, drop Indy back in the 30's, and have a commandment: NO CGI for any stunt, NO CGI for anything that can be done practically.

This.
This movie will be terrible. Way to kill Indiana, Spielburg.

Harrison Ford made Indiana Jones into a character we all love.
But eventually there has to be a decision made. No more Harrison Ford... or no more Indiana Jones.
I'm just saying I'm okay with the former, and not the latter.
To me, continuing with Harrison Ford does more damage to Indiana Jones than a re-cast would.

I honestly don't have a problem with them doing Indy James Bond style.
Chris Pratt would have been great for it a few years ago.
5 is a terrible idea with Harrison being as old as he is.

I watched 4 last week. Ford isn't as bad as the movie is. The story was just terrible.
Indiana Jones films follow a pretty easy-to-follow formula, which the 4th didn't deviate from too much. The story sucked arse and the practical effects that made the films great to begin with weren't there.
