This is my favorite Mardi Gras song - and people who have never experienced the Courir don't even know it exists

Ok here's my 2 cents. I grew up in NOLA and have experienced both even wearing a hand made costume at the one in Eunice including the mask. Been to the Mamou street dance. The Balfa bros song is a great Mardi Gras song. The tradition and the reason why chickens were caught is special. Eating hot boudin at the middle of the parade is awesome. Towards the end watching drunk guys passed out on horses not so much. The people are great. Lots of laughing while chasing chickens.
Going to watch Endymion in Midcity and Bacchus on St Charles is special. Seeing the bands, creative floats, celebrities, and going to the balls is second to none. My preference in Mardi Gras in Nola, but both Mardi Gras are special in there own way.

Eunice has an awesome one too. Wayne Toups and Spank the Monkey (lol) were here last night.
That's the REAL Mardi Gras song posted above.
It will go on till Tuesday downtown and concludes with the run Tuesday downtown. Its definitely an experience.
I'm a transplant from BR and I love the culture here. It's a special little area. You also can't beat T-Boys or Slaughterhouse boudin state wide IMO.

I heard one year there was a huge race riot brawl at the purple peacock in Eunice.

I'm wondering if you any of you have ever came to one in Mamou?
sure did, and I enjoyed it a lot. New Orleans and Mamou could not be more different, but I like them both.
As far as I am concerned, you really need someone local to show you how things go or you would be pretty uncomfortable at either.

I once used the wall of the police station there to open the cap on a beer bottle. The officers were unamused.

Its like a psychedelic KKK party

Taunt Sue also walks around with a box of boudin for everyone and a pint of fireball to take shots.
Not any more she died.

I chased the chickens in 97, got separated from my party, woke up on a front porch with an old man watching me sleep in his rocking chair, and got drunk all over again on draft beer at the local Pizza Hut for five hours waiting on my party to get me from Baton Rouge. I was a steaming pile of shite during that Mardi Gras season and haven't returned to Mamou since.
You sure this wasn't Eunice? I grew up in Mamou, and I can tell you we had no Pizza Hut in 97.

She's not dead. She just doesn't work there anymore. I saw her last week at the hospital.

Any idea if kids are allowed inside? I assume not.
Highly doubtful.
Also, in Mamou, they don't let women participate in the run, and you have to be at least 16 to ride and drink.

Eunice is just like Mamou. You should have went to the Dugout. Haha.

LOL, there's never been a Pizza Hut in Mamou. Nor a Burger King, Wendy's, McDonalds or any other chain.
If the town council was to allow one, it would cause quite a ruckus by the Mom and Pop businesses. Of course, there's nearly none of those either.........

Mamou is the best Mardi Gras experience in the state
It isn't though.
To each his own........but it isn't.

I always wanted to experience a "rural Mardi Gras" until I watched the first season of True Detective.
Now I just paint (with a broad brush) all the participants in Mamou and Erath as cult members that lust children.
