I had to get through the first few episodes BC it seemed like a normal cop procedural drama.

But now I'm hooked. The way they jump around to all the levels of the city is amazing.

Omar

I read season 2 slows down.. Is that because McNulty ended up at the marina?

Anyways, glad I finally started it after reading in multiple places it could be the best show of all time. I see potential for sure but nothing so far is truly ground breaking or anything.

That said, great acting all around in s1

It's b/c your favorite characters are a side bar for most of the season, and the new characters aren't as..."polarizing".

Just get through it. It will become more appreciated in later seasons.

it's b/c so many white people display their privilege in season 2 b/c the focal bad guys aren't black in season 2

Welcome to the fan club. IMO season 2 is the worst while watching but looking back it's not bad. Like mentioned above it's because the favorite characters aren't focused on like the other seasons.

Season 2 has some of the best characters and moments in the entire series, yet continues to be polarizing - because of the jarring shift.

The Greek, Vondas, Boris, the Sobotkas (everybody hates Iggy, but Nick and Frank are legit) - great characters - who just happened to be white guys.

It's because every seasons focuses on a different aspect of Baltimore...

1 - Drugs/street gangs
2 - Port system
3 - Government bureaucracy
4 - Education system
5 - Print media

...with underlying and overarching storylines intertwined throughout.

So as long as you know that, you'll be fine. But people always get mad when S2 doesn't focus on the Barksdale org.

Congrats on starting the best series I have ever seen. I am jealous that you get to experience it with virgin eyes. It's so fricking great.

ETA: Keep us updated as to your progress and thoughts as you get through it.

Definitely has the best "out of nowhere great tits" moment compliments of Nick's girlfriend. No way anyone thought she was packing that kind of heat.

Every season has a different theme and enters a new topic about Baltimore. The first season was the projects. The second season is the docks. There is a new set of characters at the center of the action

I quit after 3-4 episodes because it felt like another CSI. Should probably go back and power through a few more.

Just watch it and enjoy without seeking input from this board until after you complete the series. I enjoyed the series, but my expectations were unreasonably high after being tainted by the hype on this board. With those high expectations, I'm not sure if I was able to enjoy the show as much as others.

I just recently finished the series a month or so ago. It really is amazing. Great characters and acting. Smart writing.

Season 2 is probably my favorite season.

The port story is way more realistic then A lot of 3 and 5s storylines. Plus it is a tragedy of Greek proportions

Finished Ep 1. Can tell I'm going to like the Greek.

Surprised Stringer Bell and Barksdale story is still getting significant time.

That is by far my favorite aspect is season 1. Elba and the guy who plas Omar are great characters.

Crazy how this show didn't win awards back then

I don't know what my problem is with this show. I guess I need to try again. I watched the first 2 seasons and was bored by it so I stopped.

I agree here. I really like season 2, but I also lived and worked in Baltimore so I know the area.

My love for season 2 was amplified at my last job where I had to deal with getting shipments out of the port of Baltimore.

place was such a dump. I had to tell our manufacturer to never send everything to Savannah or Houston, regardless of highway miles to destination because it was cheaper to pay for the extra hauling over the fees in Baltimore.

Seriously? It aired 15 years ago. That's kind of like watching original Star Trek and saying it doesn't seem original.

Seriously? Do you have a problem comprehending? I didn't say it wasn't original. I mentioned groundbreaking. 15 years or not there were still tons of police procedure shows well before the wire. I'm just starting season 3 and it's awesome. I enjoyed season 2 a lot. Ziggy was the only weak part but by the end even his story was good.

I'm starting to see how everything is intertwined and I can tell thay by the end it's going to tie everything together and in that aspect its certainly amazing and groundbreaking if they pull off what I think they are heading towards.
