I can logically say 18 would be dumb but not 19 and above. Seniors in high school turn 18 so if they can buy that can filter down. Age limit should be 19 or 20 max so that eliminates high school students being able to buy

Not only that the fricking state of Louisiana will allow my 18 year old son into a bar, then pop him for a oui for blowing a 0.023 on a breath test. Wish I sue the frick out of this state for allowing 18 year olds into a fricking bar even though the damn drinking age is 21..... I love Louisiana but this state is seriously fricked up

thats why I mentioned the graduating HS stamp they could go on the ID.

It then adds a small incentive for kids to graduate on time.

If you drop out, you have to get your GED and wait until at least 19.

Hang in there champ! In 2 or 3 years you will be old enough to legally get your drank on. We were all pissed at your age about the age requirement but you will have completely forgotten about when you are 21 and won't even hold a grudge.

I wish I was 18. However, I am approaching 50.

Fight for your country and drink overseas. Pretty much what I did. Drinking in Italy where I was, no big deal. Funny thing was, I couldn't rent a car though, had to be 25.

Maybe, but that's irrelevant. Why not raise it to 30? Save more lives. Outlaw alcohol. Save more lives.

Using that logic, why not lower the drinking age to 16?

Drinkihg age was 18 when I was in in HS and was not a
good idea. Some type of alchohol related wreck almot every other weekend, out of control keg parties.Saw 2 people almost drink themselves to death.Sorry,18 year olds couldn't handle it 40 years ago and were much more marure than this generation of snowflake 18 year olds.

If you want to make an exception for members of the armed services I have no problem with it but otherwise it should stay at 21.

Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.

It's due to drunk driving. The legal drinking age used to be 18 before they found out that there was a considerable amount of drunk driving deaths caused by teenage drunk driving. So the government decided to raise the drinking age to 21 in the mid '80s. After they passed the law, the number of deaths related to drunk driving plummeted. As of 2011, the rate of deaths caused by drunk drivers is less than half of what it was in 1982.

Sure, the human brain isn't even fully developed until you're 25. We should also raise the voting age to 25.

I care much more about raising the voting age than the drinking age. But if we're going to be making laws for "public safety" then 25 is the logical answer

It is completely illogical to say that someone is old enough to go to war, receive the death penalty, vote or get married, but not to drink alcohol.

Anyone with two brain cells to rub together should be able to see the fallacy of this argument. You going to war, being executed, getting married, or voting has zero impact on public safety.

Its actually not illogical at all. Especially the go to war part.

That is impossible to attribute to the age change. Cars are much safer and DWI awareness is huge now. When I was younger we drove drunk all the time. Driving drunk now is frowned upon by teens and young adults.

I can rub my two brain cells together and determine there is no proof that public safety has improved.

Even if it had, restricting the rights of legal adults should not be allowed in the name of public safety.

I can name 100 things that would improve public safety, but would never be implemented due to the affects in private rights.

I'm gonna catch shite for this, but maybe we should up the age to vote and serve in the military to 21. Gain a little maturity before making big, life altering decisions.

I'd increase it to 25.

Takes most longer than 21 to get a little maturity and responsibility

Somehow I doubt it. Pretty clear evidence even for you

quote:

In the mid 1970s, alcohol was a factor in over 60% of traffic fatalities. Traffic crashes were the leading cause of alcohol-related deaths and two-thirds of traffic deaths among persons aged 16 to 20 involved alcohol.

quote:

The number of alcohol-related traffic deaths among 16 to 20 year-olds in the U.S. decreased from 5,244 in 1982 to 1,987 in 2008 in large measure because of the legal drinking age of 21
